Does anyone know what’s going on with the thorns at the moment? I haven’t played 4 seasons and I don’t see a happy picture. The values on the razorplate are low, the number of thorns on the shield is < 100
Thorns isn’t very good right now. It’s suffering from the same bugs that are affecting the Ring of Mendeln. The biggest issue with Thorns is the damage isn’t scaling as well as other damage sources. The stat squish changes from last season exacerbated it to the point that you could actually do more Thorns damage by dropping the Razorplate.
Also unlike other changes made to minion damage, Thorns damage is still scaling off the smaller minion base damage and not the Necromancer’s base damage.
Other issues are +Summoning Damage still doesn’t buff Thorns damage. Also the new Bristleback Aspect doesn’t work on minions. I haven’t gotten around to see if the Needleflare Aspect finally works on minions or not.
So like all other minion builds, Thorns builds are underperforming due to all the bugs introduced this season, but it’s even further behind those other minion build due to the factors I listed above.
Unless you’re really committed to play Thorns this season, you should save yourself the aggravation and play a build that actually works as it should.
Thorns just arent working, as @GoodEats rightly said out above. If I can give u one advice, try another archetype this season. Unfortunately thats what were doing until they fix it.
Thorns is still being classified as minion damage so player damage multipliers are not working on it. It essentially just doesn’t have enough scaling atm to function properly. I asked during the developer chat about it and got confirmation from the devs that they are looking into the issue. I am not sure if it will have a fix in 2.1.2 or later though.
What do you think about the basic numbers of thorns? Don’t they seem too low to start working even if they are fixed?
I hope we have a fix. I think mendeln needs same fix, so if fix mendeln, should be fix thorns in same way.
It is an issue of damage attribution. The issue we are having now is that minions are supposed to be doing player damage. But not all of the tags are working with player damage. Thorns is dealing minion damage and not all of the tags deal minion damage. So something’s got left behind on both fronts or are simply bugged when being seemingly universal multipliers.
This is why I am unsure they will fix both at the same time. They need to adjust thorns damage to match the current bugged minion damage state then fix both.
