Question about GA tempering

I’m just trying to better understand/clarify something. When tempering I thought that in place of rolling max affix value you would basically be granted GA instead. Since GAs were introduced I’ve never ever once done a temper and got the max value (eg. 50 on a 30-50 roll).

I’m now tempering Damage Over Time onto my rings and it’s the first time I’ve gotten the max value 50% [30-50]% and, after 43 rerolls, no greater affix has shown but I managed to get 50% 4 times. Is this a bug or is it just RNG not being on my side?

Did you make sure the item you are tempering is ancestral? It won’t roll GA otherwise.

Also, it’s possible to max roll an affix and it not roll GA. It’s super annoying when it happens but it is what it is.

Getting the original max value, as you said 50, is not getting the GA value which is even higher. As above poster noted the item must be ancestral, and anecdotal evidence suggests that the item already having at least one GA affix seems to make rolling the tempering GA easier / faster. Good luck! :four_leaf_clover:
