Want to share this idea of pet system where pets would pick up and auto-salvage and/or auto-sell items. Could be tested out as future season theme.
Idea is not to have just that, but with gamification involved.
When playing the game and then salvaging/selling (could be picking up) items you would increase familiarity of those items for pets (affixes, rarities, types). This could be progression system similar to barbarian weapon type leveling. Once pet is familiar with affix you can tell pet to salvage, sell or leave it, more affixes you unlock better instructions you could leave.
This way at the start of game you pick up everything familiarizing yourself with items (and generally you care more about each drop at the start) and ease blasting at the endgame.
I realize this sounds very similar to loot filter, but not exactly. All the loot still drops, just some of it is picked by pet. So it’s not exactly solving the problem how much of loot drops, but taps in tremendous quality of life part of loot filter of not having to go to town frequently. Plus “pet handled” items do not just disappear like with loot filter in other games - you get salvage material or gold out of it!
