Q: Enchantments and their interactions with skill levels

So from want I’m reading — and I’ll use ice shards as an example — increasing the level of the spell that’s slotted in an enchantment slot does not affect the damage that the enchantment does.

Does this apply to every other slotted spell? If not, I’ve just freed up four whole skill points to use in passives.

Increasing the level of Fire Bolt increases the amount of Burn. Likewise increasing the level of Frost Bolt increases the amount of Chill. And increasing the level of Teleport improved the Cooldown of the granted Evade.

It would be inconsistent for Ice Shards summoned by Frozen targets not to do more damage. Guess you could test it though.

Since you need at least one point in an ability to use it as an enchantment, I believe that more points add to the damage. I am not sure about the burning from firebolt. It depends if the 40% burning damage goes up with more points. If only the base damage increases, then only one point is needed.

It shows you in game on mouseover how much Burn you get from Fire Bolt as an enchantment. It starts at 23%. At 5 ranks it goes up to 33%. I suppose if you had ranks from items it would go higher still.

Just knowing Blizzard’s lack of attention to any detail whatsoever, this is what concerns me.

I can well understand that. After all, we have passives which do not work.
