Purpose of the “server slam?”

What was the purpose of the server slam if the devs learned nothing from it other than how to steal peoples time and money?

other than how to steal peoples time and money?

Kind of answered your own question, didn’t you?

Probably a money grubbing gimmick, its Activi$$ion now

Even if the stated purpose was genuine, it was kinda flawed from the start. A lot of people that had access to it didn’t partake simply because no progress was saved.

Err… an unanticipated server crash? Why are people so entitled? What does the server slam have to do with this?

Yeah I agree. Someone(s) at Blizzard, or a vendor of theirs has F’d up, or they’re getting hacked. Either way I suspect this is less of a server availability thing and something else entirely.

Advertising… welcome to 2023… where the cash shop has basically made thegames garbage, but the cosmetics are on point for $30

Best comment winner lol

I mean Early Access weekend and Tue/Wed were fine.

They hit an issue today. The launch had been relatively fine from a server standpoint up until this point. Something broke… it will get fixed.

The server slam ran fine. There was zero issues early access and then official release day had the one down status on top of this one.

Theres the people who didnt participate as well, and other factors the company being taxed. Not justifying the downtimes but speculating.

Getting ever closer to official release weekend, too. This will be happening off and on for a while.

Yeah it happens ppl have paid an average of 80, so if anything they are entitled. A simple offline mode would solve all these issues and let people join online when they want to. Same crap on D3 where the game was unplayable for months. When you start playing hardcore and the server craps out on you and you die, you will understand why people feel that way.

Because open betas are essentially the equivalent of a glorified demo to get you on that “first one is free” high.

Advertising. Though Im sure some knowledge was gleened, just a ton more people now.

Overall so far I’d say free cosmetics > paid cosmetics even ignoring price. Best paid cosmetics have been on the horse, lol

Server slam was to verify the cash shop worked with 1000s online.

Welcome to Activision… or well I guess any major game release from big business after 2004.

I don’t think they had any idea how many people planned on purchasing the game after the launch lol. Bound to have happened at some point.

You… didn’t see D2R’s launch and complaints about not being able to get online then clearly. It was just as bad because people didn’t want to play a new SP character but use their progressed online character
