PTR Season 6: I feel like I went to work instead of gaming

Edited 12/09/2024 - Watched the Wudi stream where Macroboiboi literally said that ‘‘Ancestral drop rate was bugged and didn’t scale with Torment Tiers. It was a known bug in the PTR’’. Enough said for the ones saying to keep it ‘‘low’’ and good to know for the rest of us…the majority.

So I closed the PTR today after a week of playing with a fresh new character. Ended up with:

  • 0 of my build ideas tested. How could I? Useful stuff never dropped and ended up getting most of my gear by gambling. Are we really going to rely on Obols for Ancestrals? Please don’t. They feel better after a kill.

  • A neverending thinking of ‘‘well, I will wear this that does nothing for my build but I need it to at least try a different temper while something better drops or simply surviving’’. In Season 4/5 I tested multiple build ideas. Most of them failed compared to meta builds, but had a lot of fun playing them because I saw the progress in every run for gear and mats for upgrades.

I know a few of you are in love with the idea of chasing a powerful ‘‘pixel’’ during the entire season for it drop 2 weeks before season ends. It is not the case for most of us. We want to wear that piece of gear 2 weeks after season started so by week 8 can have a couple toons doing good or simply 1 or 2 that stomp the entire content and do carries for people with maybe less time/luck.

I’ve got a few Ancestral drops. Most of them couldn’t be used because most of them had 2 useless affixes for my build and/or 1 of the tempers was either a brick or a low roll. And I don’t want to even mention when a simple legendary has the same situation but with only 1 temper avaible and stats that even some magic items (now dropping a lot in Torment 4 because why not?) had more power than them.

And for those saying that this is cool because it is a Diablo 2 model: Brothers, I don’t like Diablo 2. I like Diablo 4. You can choose to play Diablo 2 and let the devs focus on what Diablo 4 players want. Stop pushing devs in that direction because we all know all of you are going to move on in November to a game that players like you have been waiting for. You all know what I am talking about.

If I have to ‘‘invest x10 more time grinding the fun gear’’ I will rather just take extra hours at my job and get a real reward for time invested. This is a game, I want to have fun while playing it. We already have that. Don’t take it away.

I agree playing in the PTR was way to much of a workout. Once I figured out why the game keep crashing on me for the first 2 days.

I tested out a Lightning Storm Druid build of my own got it up to Torment 2 after the second day of playing with the help of the Vendor of Cheats. But can’t run Torment 3 without dying every couple of mins.

Mostly because of the crappy drop rate of Ancestral gear. I played for 5 hours on Sunday on Torment 2 to only get 1 Ancestral to drop with bad rolls on it. The bricking rate of items seem the same. Why can’t you put 2 Tempers on none Ancestral items?

After playing for 3 days I’ve had enough.

I’m a Casual player that likes to play with others when posable. I play the game to have fun this doesn’t feel like fun.

I feel like I went to work instead of gaming

This statement is a perfect description of the actual state of this game:

Well said. No one liked the game at launch. Thats all Blizz did is come full circle and go back to launch vision of long slow grinds and no good loot drops. This only appeases streamers and .01% of the playerbase.

I’ll be playing the new class through the new campaign and setting the game back down. I expect most people that bought the expansion will do roughly the same. Nobody is going to sit there for 100-200h to level paragon and no one is going to chase boring loot that doesnt drop.

I can’t argue with anything you stated OP…it can’t really be that hard to make a game that’s fun to play for most people, right?

I made the mistake of buying the DLC after a couple of days playing Season 5. I did because I thought: You know what? Diablo Team finally got it. Those guys are awesome and look all the fun they brought with in only 2 seasons (4 and 5). I am going to buy the DLC knowing what they are doing and what they are capable of. Take my money, I will also take the new ‘‘Cat’’ that goes slower than my horse for some reason for extra 20.

And here I am after playing the PTR:

They even seem to have gone to the trouble of creating new useless affixes. I swear that 60% of my items dropped with +life on or something like that. Really helpful on higher levels, Blizzard.

I already get a Refund for “Vessel of Hatred” cause it’s NOT the Game i payed for. Also there will no more Season Passes for me. Maybe one day, when the Devs make an enjoyable Game again instead of mostly useless Grinding. Until then i spent my money on Games that gives me nice, not disgusting game experience.

I’m quite looking forward to the expansion content, but if the PTR is representative for the season, the new content is all I’ll be doing.

Wait, can I get a refund? If I can I will until I see what they actually release.
If I can not get the refund I deserve to lose that money anyways. I perfectly know at this point that you never pre-purchase a DLC or a game, I just got tricked by myself. That’s how fun last 2 seasons have been.

Thank you Bliz. You offers us infinite game hours. I can farm until I get 80 years old and I always have a chance to get a better item which made me exciting.

This is well said. I feel the same way. With the current state of the game the casual player will get burned out.

Oh, boy… Yet another thread where people completely forgot about infernal hordes… :joy:

I agree. I only lasted a couple of days in the PTR. When games feel like work instead of fun I don’t play them. I really regret pre-purchasing the expansion based on how good the last 2 seasons were.

I don’t disagree, but when you’re forced to do the same thing over and over it takes away from the rest of the game for the average casual player.

Like I said, you make a valid point, and since the PTR didn’t have IH’s players weren’t able to really see the benefit of that aspect. Hopefully, that will at least help the ancestral grind for most players.

Quite the opposite. Now you can target-do everything with purpose!

That should be the new way.

You forget my tag but I don’t forget yours. You are just disrespecting everyone around in the forums, threating people and trolling.
I already saw you on YouTube. You look like a really disturbed person and you are trying to bring that to the forums. I hope they ban you for at least a couple of weeks with all the stuff I reported from you.

Oh, boy… Get a life FFS… Also, looks like 3k subs on youtube and 3k on twitch disagree with you and agree with me. :joy:

I think its a really important point that you make, that its a game and we want to have fun playing it.
Now for the most part I’m sure we do, I’ve enjoyed this game since D2 and still do, also i dont mind the grind, as long as somthing more obtainable rather than the exp needed at the moment, its far too much IMO.
I feel they’re chasing a different vision each time and are unsure of what to do with Diablo 4
