PSA - the order in which you pick paragon boards matters

I’ve been messing around with d4builds.gg, mostly just trying to plan out my paragon path so I don’t have to think about it too much while leveling.

The further I got into routing my paragon points, the more I noticed the increasingly high prerequisites for the rare node bonus effects. For example…

Choosing Cheap Shot as the 2nd paragon board (first after the Starter board)…

Rare Node
Safeguard

  • 6.5% Damage Reduction from Elites
  • 100 Armor

Bonus: Another 6.5% Damage Reduction from Elites if requirements are met:

  • 0 / 345 Dexterity

Choosing Cheap Shot as the 6th paragon board…

Bonus: Another 6.5% Damage Reduction from Elites if requirements are met:

  • 0 / 865 Dexterity

(All other stats are the same)

What this means is that, if you have important rare nodes that don’t align with your primary stat, then you may want them to be one of the first paragon boards you choose, since it’ll be much more difficult to meet the bonus requirements if they’re chosen last.

Anyway, just thought I’d share. Every time I think I have a grasp on the paragon system, it gets a little more complex.

Thanks. This is good info and something I didn’t notice when crafting on a different build planner. D4builds is def the best I’ve seen.
I knew this already because I stumbled across a video by Kanon a day ago(who, among a few others, shares some great data and insights).
just wanted to :+1: - some people(like myself) might overlook this or be totally unaware of it.

“Play your way”

But in our order we want you to play.

What primary stat is it for necromancers and druids?

Yeah, i went deeper into my theroycrafting of paragon as well today and it looks like that only the first two extra boards have the average possibility of completed rares for the bonus. Maybe there is some way to focus only on one stat and then only go for rares that use that stat, but its so unlikely.

Frankly, i am only going for rare nodes on the basic board and the first extra, on the second one i could technically reach some rares but its not worth it and i mainly use it for the glyph and legendary node. I have a third one as well, but only 12 points in to reach the legendary node. First board is completely full, second board is full with completed rares.

Intellect for Necro, Willpower for Druid.

As far as I can tell…

  • Intellegence - Necro & Sorc
  • Willpower - Druid
  • Strength - Barb
  • Dexterity - Rogue

Glucose I believe is the primary stat for druids. Willpower must be a inside joke.

yeah thats a good point.

most of my builds im using 4 boards (including start) so i dont think i will be able to reach the rare node req of one of the two secondary stats (dex/int for druid) so that could be a factor too. like avoid a rare dex req node on 3rd/4th+ boards potentially.

What is an example of a rare node that doesnt align with primary stat?

Thanks for the info. I didn’t actually know this but it is very good to know.

You mean Protein. That’s muscle not fat.

It takes willpower to leave the house looking like this.

That or desperation to find more calories. Not sure which just yet.

I wouln’t say you can solve your build with selecting a single stat and focus on it. Have to consider, that for different build, you got different stat priority. However this is how it works:
Barbarian: Strenght (skill damage), Willpower (Resource generation), Dextrerity (Crit chance)

Rogue: Strenght (Resource generation), Intelligence (Crit chance) ,Dexterity (skill damage)

Sorcerer: Willpower (Resource generation), Intelligence (Skill damage), Dexterity (Crit chance)

Necromancer: Willpower (Resource generation), Intelligence (Skill damage), Dexterity (Crit chance)

Druid: Willpower( Skill damage), Intelligence (Resource generation), Dexterity (Crit chance)

Also these start always adds these bonuses, independently from classes:
Strength: +1 Armor per point
Intelligence: +0.05% All Resistance per point
Willpower: +0.1% Healing Received and +0.25% Overpower Damage per point
Dexterity: +0.025% Dodge Chance per point

As a Rogue, the No Witnesses board has this node.

Rare Node
Knowledge

  • 10% Damage
  • 10 Intelligence

Bonus: Another 10% Damage if requirements are met:

  • 0 / 530 Intelligence

Because I originally had it as my 5th board, and my primary stat is Dexterity, I had to rearrange it to meet the Intelligence requirement.

So the int requirement would be a lot lower if you chose it early…

True, but the primary stat for each class is the most prominent on their respective paragon boards, especially within the glyph radius.

Each glyphs have different stat requirment to fullfill for the bonus, so it’s doesn’t rely on your primary stat.

No, Barbs main is protein.

Do people even get to 6 boards normally? It seems like you’d run out of points after 4 unless you were just skipping everything besides the power and I don’t think the way the powers are designed you’d even want that many of them in a single build.

At least for Sorc I don’t think I’d even want more than that, but I haven’t messed around with paragon boards that much.
