I have pretty much all progress made on a softcore character and I’m interested in starting off with a hardcore character in the new season. (and ofc, I do not have any hardcore characters in season 0)
Does the progress carry over from softcore to hardcore?
No. That’s totally not how it works at all.

Softcore and Hardcore are totally different game mode. Just think of one playing in server A and the other in B

Seasons = a server that is wiped clean, every 3 months as of now. You can choose not to participate in this “new and fresh” server at all. Just continue on your A / B.
Seasons tend to have their own soft/hard core modes as well, just call them C and D
We need clarification rather than speculation.
I do agree that Softcore and Hardcore is a totally different game mode but the map exploration, Lilith statue, and more is being migrated from season to season or even character to character as a removal of tedious and boring part of the game. You may suggest that there is “added difficulty” with it being hardcore… but seriously, I can just explore the map on hardcore in world level 1 without ANY issues.
This is actually a rather staple concept used in ARPG for decades, as you can tell ARPGs tend to be linear hence the reset to incentivize replayablity. It’s just that for new players to the genre likely won’t know how it works. Gamers in the past who are new to ARPGs dealt with the same issues and just figured it out as well. Communications in the past were even worse
The whole refarming Lilith statue, map explorations etc. though… that’s purely a D4 bad design issue, nothing to do with the genre
Yup, the progress system is not well fleshed out… And you can see the diablo team is willing to alter the staple concepts used in ARPGs. (As we see in this case of progress being migrated)
So, this question cannot be answered with just a simple “No”. There is complexity here that needs an answer.
I will not enjoy the season 1 experience if I have to explore the map and I refuse to reveal the map again in hardcore during this season.
Yeah i was wondering that too. like, should i go and make a HC character now, unlock what i can so my seasonal HC doesnt have to? or will my SC progress apply to literally any of my future characters regardless of season or HC/SC

SC renown progress and the stat bonuses from Lilith Altars don’t apply to HC and that applies to seasonal characters too. They spoke about it at length during one of the dev streams.
You need to do everything on HC too, except complete the campaign if you’ve already done it on SC. But you need to complete the campaign once on HC if you want the HC challenges for the campaign bosses.
Also, if you want the renown progress from altars and discovered areas to apply to your season characters then you need to make sure your HC character with those things collected is still alive so you can login with them on 18th July after the patch. I don’t mean the stat bonuses from the altars, just the renown progress.
Considering that no renown rewards are shared between the eternal and hardcore realms I am willing to bet that the map/altar progress update that’s coming with season 1 will likely be separated as well.
If you plan on playing a hardcore character in season 1 I’d start farming altars and map locations now, making sure to keep your character alive for when the update drops just to be safe.
You can skip story if you don’t care about getting the achievement on HC. You’ll need to at minimum get alters and renown if you want to start with season
Wait, you’re expecting to carry SC character progress to HC seasons, when HC players won’t be able to carry it over if their character died and they can no longer log in with it?
