It’s becoming kind of annoying not knowing if an item I find is a good replacement for what I’m wearing of not. Since my gear is all 5 star upgraded, I don’t really know if a new piece of gear, that isn’t upgraded at all, will beat out the 5 star gear I’m wearing. I have to upgrade it to 5 stars first just to see. Which is kind of silly.
Maybe have a preview of what the 5 star upgrade stats look like.
Perhaps a setting that only shows you what the stats of items would be at tier 5 upgrade. And you have to press ALT or something while hovering to see the current stats.

I suppose having a key/button to toggle what it would look like fully upgraded wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Turn on the optional advanced tooltip info, it tells range it can roll and the +/- stats overall. Also if an item doesn’t have the stats you want already in the green higher than what you got when you pick it up it’s not really worth using/upgrading just scrap and sell.
Save up the materials for upgrade/rerolling in mid-endgame and pay attention the ilvl upgrading, if it’s not near the breakpoint it’s kind of a waste to upgrade too, if it’s similar to what you already have.

I don’t think the extended tooltip shows ranges of tier 5 upgrades on items. Just what the base item can roll. I’m asking for a preview of what tier 5 would be if the item was upgraded. Otherwise, it’s hard to tell if the un-upgraded item that just dropped is worth replacing what I’m wearing. I’d have to spend gold and forgotten souls, etc, just to see a side by side.
what you expect from activision game ? lol
I have a feeling more and more people will start seeing what I’m talking about as the average player makes his way into the 70s and above. Something really should be done about this. The only indicator one has is the item power level.

Yeah, absolutely needed… when you have upgraded to some rank it’s almost impossible to tell if the new “raw” item will be an upgrade when upgraded to the same rank or higher.
A preview for a fully upgraded (or better every rank with a drop-down menu on the blacksmith/jewelcrafter) item would also remove the need to know about item power breakpoints, we could just see if upgrades will add a rank to a skill or not, etc.

This is wrong. Upgrades are a weird system. It’s not uncommon to find a weapon that’s, say 800 item power that has initially worse affixes than your 770 item power weapon. But after upgrading the 800 a few times that may change. I’ve replaced a few items like this that never would have happened if I just trashed everything with red numbers.
If you find something in the 800s, give it a few upgrades and see if it’s worth keeping
Compare should just automatically show the item at the same upgrade level as the item you are comparing it to. If you have 3 upgrades in your current item then it shows it as 3 upgrades.

Great idea, makes total sense and they should do it.
Agreed, I got this new gear for example, had to upgrade it to see if it’s really an improvement for me:

But I couldn’t see it clearly before upgrading the new gear to level 4. Originally all the stats just looked bad.
And now my money is wasted.
For future attempts (since any helpful game feature isn’t likely soon), unless you are cross an item breakpoint (625, 725), you can just add 50% to all the affix rolls and add a little bit to the damage/armor of an item to estimate the fully-upgraded value.

Thanks, will work but inconvenient (meaning: slow). Blizzard knows how to make us slow. I don’t have time for slow. My teammates don’t even collect yellow gear, while I do and I check all the time which can be turned into a legendary. So they always complain that I’m too slow checking stats, comparing gear, etc. And I need the yellows because anything I don’t need will get me lots of gold I can use later for whatever the game loves to obliterate my gold on.
