The only thing I cared about from this update was how will Battle pass, shop and premium currency work, but they didn’t mention premium currency at all. Is there even a premium currency? Can it be gained in-game like in Warzone or Overwatch 2, and will you be able to buy Battle pass or shop items with it like in those games?
Answer better be yes to all of it, I won’t believe their free games have that option but a full priced game doesn’t, specially regarding shop items. I can get behind having to pay for BP every 3 months IF they will be as big and content rich as they say, but having no way of getting shop items other than real money would be ridiculous on top of it all.
Yeah no answer just yet. I just remember though Bobby Kotick saying that Diablo IV needs to be a 1 billion dollar a year game. So I expect lots of ways to get people to spend their money.
To earn rewards from the Premium Tiers, a player must purchase the Premium Battle Pass. This upgraded track of the Battle Pass will not provide any in-game power, but instead unlocks tiers that provide Cosmetics unique to that Season and the Platinum currency. Platinum can be spent in the Shop to acquire new Cosmetics that sculpt you into the wanderer you wish to become or put towards the purchase of future Battle Passes. Platinum can only be acquired using real currency, such as USD.
Overall, there are three versions of the Battle Pass available. The Free Battle Pass, simply called Battle Pass, the Premium Battle Pass, which will cost 1,000 Platinum (equivalent of $9.99 USD), and the Accelerated Battle Pass, which includes all perks of the Premium Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skips, the Wings of the Creator Emote, and will cost 2,800 Platinum (equivalent of $24.99 USD).
Reinforcing Your Character’s Fantasy: The Shop
Through slaying demons across Sanctuary, you can acquire hundreds of transmogs, weapons, and pieces of armor, including dozens of armor sets, all available to players at launch. The role of Shop Cosmetics is to provide greater breadth in customization options, allowing you to reinforce the fantasy of choice for your character—none of the Cosmetics sold in the Shop provide anything greater than aesthetic variety. Diablo is a dark, gritty, fantasy game, and its purchasable Cosmetics will reinforce this theme. In comparison to the Class-agnostic Cosmetics earned from the Battle Pass, the Cosmetics offered in the Shop are meant to reinforce class-specific fantasies, so there will be some Cosmetics unique to particular Classes. The Shop is intended to be an avenue of self-expression for our players, and they can interact with it as much or as little as they desire during their time in Sanctuary.
The Cosmetics sold in the Shop will rotate on a consistent basis and must be purchased with Platinum. Once you have purchased a Cosmetic for a Class, it will be usable for all characters of that Class on your account. Diablo IV also contains a cross-purchase feature, where any Platinum or items acquired with Platinum are tied to your Battle.net account and can be accessed on any platform where you play the game. The Shop has been built for transparency; using the Preview function, you can thoroughly inspect any Cosmetic you’re thinking of purchasing to ensure it feels right for you. Our Shop is also intelligent; using your playstyle and aesthetic preferences, it will recommend Cosmetics that support the wanderer you want to become.
Where did you get that info? I tried the search bar before posting but all other questions about it, had moderator answers saying they don’t know it.
Thanks for the info, I do however find it even more bizarre now, that they didn’t mention premium currency at all during the live blog.
The shop currency is called Palladium and as far as we know it is purchased with cash only. No way to earn it in game. This is a live service game and the cash shop will pay for further seasons and development of the game. Don’t have to buy anything but those that do will be contributing to the longevity of the game.
Platinum, not Palladium. Look at the blog.
Oh thanks! I guess they changed the name from the previous leak. Well in the blog it says it can ONLY be purchased with cash. So that is the answer. No in game way to earn it.
ETA: Actually I should have read the blog post before commenting. You can earn Platinum as part of the battlepass and use it to toward the purchase of future battlepasses.
They already covered it in the 8/22 blog. How many times must they restate things?
The Battle Pass awards Premium Currency. Players can spend this currency on cosmetics offered in the shop.
The premium currency is supposedly Palladium. As for whether you can use it to buy the season pass, I believe you can, but I’m not sure if you will get enough to purchase the pass just by completing the previous. I think it’s more like a rebate that gives you a bit back for spending 10$ on the pass.
I would love to see the source on that.
That’s the kind of stuff that needs to be clarified, in the latest post it says you get platinum with the premium tiers but in the post from August 2022 it says you get them on both Free and Premium, so which is it? And obviously we want to know if it’s going to be enough for the next BP like in Warzone or if you will have to save like in Overwatch.
Well the moment it comes out, you’ll be able to get your answer so it’s not like it will change anything knowing it now.
