Hi all,
This isn’t the first post regarding how underpowered Sorcs are. However I wanted to go over reasons that contribute to why Sorcs are the most underpowered class.
First off Barbs are able to equip 4 weapons and fully utilize each weapon’s dps to stack attack power, stats, and aspect. This alone makes them way overpowered. Along with Druid they can equip The Grandfather which is just ridiculous if ever looted. Why doesn’t Rogue, Necro, and Sorc have a similar item?
Druids have the most insane synergies in the game and it’s not even close. Every Druid-specific unique is a god tier item. They also have the most useful class aspects. The ability to stack different damage types and compound dps. Their Spirit Boon specialization is outright overpowered as well. Each of the 5 boons they’re able to pick are equivalent to a rare node in the paragon board. They are also the second class that can equip The Grandfather.
Rogues can equip 3 weapons and like the Barb can stack attack power, CHC, CHD, & attack speed. Their class aspects aren’t that great but because they’re able to stack those 4 key stats that makes every build feasible. All they need is one OP aspect like Bladedancer’s Aspect to make any build great. The poison alone from that can hit for over 1mil each tick.
Necro minions are underpowered and need a dramatic overhaul to push high NM dungeons. But their Bone builds have insane synergy and are just so totally overpowered. Their Bone Spear build is truly a glorified version of the Sorc’s Ice Shard build. Bone Spirit just nukes everything.
Now comes the Sorc. Sorcs have by far the worst set of unique items in the game and it’s not even close. Our best unique is Raiment of the Infinite YET the teleport cooldown is increased. Our uniques are so bland and underwhelming. Sorc aspects are also underwhelming and they have the most aspects that either include a negative or aspects to skills that don’t have increased dps modifiers. What do I mean by negative? Look at the Piercing Cold aspect: Ice Shards pierce but each subsequent shard deals xx% less damage. Raiment of the Infinite is a unique yet teleport’s cooldown is increased. Gravitational Aspect decreases ball lightning dps. If we look at the Sorc’s strongest build, Ice Shards; we see that the Piercing Cold aspect is what drives the build. That aspect is far inferior to the Necro’s Splintering aspect because each subsequent Ice Shard deals 25-20% less damage while the Necro’s Bone Shards deal an additional 50-100% bonus damage. Each one of those bone shards are hitting 2mil+ in end game while Ice Shards is hitting for 200-400k. Like what the heck Blizzard? The Fire and lightning elements have some fun builds but they are just way too underpowered. We’re talking about crits that deal 100k on average while other classes are hitting in upwards of 1mil+. Ice Shards is the only viable ice build. Which is unfortunate because Frozen Orb has been a long favorite since D3. In order for the Sorcerer to have their power match more in line with the other classes they need several of the following (in no particular order):
- the ability to hold three weapons (2h & 1h/offhand OR 2h & 1 wand / 1 dagger). There is no point in using a dagger since Lucky Hit is an important stat. Give us the ability to equip both a wand AND dagger simultaneously like how Rogue can equip two 1h.
- instead of 2 enchantments the ability to have 3-4 enchantments.
- skill tree overhaul to have more CDR & mana cost reduction.
- allow us to increase fire and lightning dps similar to how we can do that with Permafrost, Icy Touch, Frigid Breeze, & Hoarfrost. why does this only need to be specific to ice element?
- a way to scale core dps or overall dps in general. maybe the more CDR we build it increases CHD by xx%. And then our Lucky Hit Chance increases CHC by xx%. maybe the more total mana we have it increases our overall damage by xx%. maybe we can even have a unique that allows us to expend all of our mana to perform a massive spike hit to whatever core skill we have equipped. right now the biggest issue is that we have the least amount of ways to scale dps. maybe the more resistances we build increases our dps to that element. aka the more cold resistance we build it also increases our cold damage by xx% etc…
- aspects that increase skill dps rather than decrease dps or increase CDR (Piercing Cold aspect for example).
- bring Archon back. seeing how awesome Druid shapeshifting is there’s a possibility for Archon to be as great.
- make Hydras useful again…
- Give us built in abilities for fire and lightning to do vulnerable so we don’t have to use Frost Nova in every build…
- I haven’t looked at other class paragon boards and I’m assuming they are similar, but there’s really no use in things like potion healing, increases to elemental resistances, damage reduction to elements, damage taken over time, etc… maybe we can switch these nodes to much more useful stats to CDR, CCD, extra mana, etc…
Again, Sorc easily has the worst dps scaling right now. They can’t equip enough weapons to boost dps and/or their synergies just aren’t powerful enough. We need one or the other or a mix of both.
I just really hope the 13 pages of notes includes a major buff to the Sorc.
I know some will disagree with my suggestions and some will agree. Let’s keep things constructive. Let me know your thoughts.
