So I’m trying to optimize my Flurry/Imbue Rogue using my stat sheet beginning with Resistances as resistances have been “Fixed” however, when I take off gear/certain gear, my resistance drops to Negative Numbers. What the heck?
What’s worse is that I started this new Rogue because my pre-season 2 rogue has all his resistances at -45.6% when I take all his gear off, so I assumed this was some sort of persistent bug since I created him before season 1 even.
Once I created my new Rogue, I took all his gear off at lvl 1 just to see that all Resistances were at ZERO as they should be on a new character. Now I assume that all my Resistances will be ADDITIVE as opposed to Inverse Multiplicitave, as they should be,… however,…
Now I’m lvl 46 and taking my choker off, I see that my lightning resistance is -8.xx percent. What the actuall hell?
Honestly, is there something I’m missing? While I’m a casual, I’ve been plaing Diablo since Diablo 1 beginning in 2000. You’d think I’d be able to figure this out. If I’m missing something obvious, please let me know. This is awful.
There is no reason why a lvl 45 character should be MORE affected by any element than what they were at lvl. 1!
Increases in World Tier add a negative resistance to your overall resistance sum.
This is standard in D2 and PoE. You need to find better gear to keep up with the penalty of the higher difficulty world tier.
This is due to resistances being additive and capped at 70%. When you go up a world tier, your old cap is no longer good enough and you need to improve your gear to re-cap resists.

PoE had a genius way of canonically explaining the resistance debuff, and it was awesome.

it goes really deeped, when you have -% resistance the tool tip shows “reduced damage to x element by -x%” :))))…In my book reduced something + -x%, reduced by and - something is always a good thing…
But to be honest it’s Blizzard , were 1000 * 40% = 1040 and last something ( like last bastion of light, last hideout for something) is never the last but the 5th or 6th last.

on WT4 you suffer from a -50% resistances debuff.

This sounds exactly right and I now know that I have distant memory of hearing this a while ago. Thanks for the clarification. To confirm what you’ve said, I just now got to world tier III on my new rogue and that’s how I discovered this. My mistake.
oh look, its another one of these types of people.
you and that gravity idiot are both condescending as hell. you cannot comprehend in your tiny brains that this might be somebody’s first ARPG. or first diablo game. or first time dealing with such a system.
get off your high horse. lose the attitude.

Yeah, we gotta update as we go
Trying to increase the IP of your rings/amulets, they have implicit All Resist on them
Then, you can use diamonds in jewelry for extra All Resist
And by WT3, you start finding more 4 affixes items , try to focus on those
Logically speaking i dont think they should go negative and jusr zero out like a bottom limit like we have armor ans res cap.
First arpg, dude reading is tech
Well figure this. I ADD diamonds (resist all +5%) to my rings and amulet and my resistance goes down… I think this game is majorly borked.
(Actually scrap that, I think an effect buff dropped just as I changed gems out)
mind sharing a screenshot?
WT4 has a penalty of Resistances at -50%, meaning your Res. should be above 50% to be positive, and 100+% for them to be good enough
Some classes are better at dealing with survival one way or another (Sorc has good Res baseline, Barb has good armor, Druid has high HP and Fortify, Necro has Fortify, e.t.c.), but Rogues have this problem really more emphasized than others
Lower armor due to no Str, low res % due to no Int, and no Fortify - really the hardest class in terms of survival but for what it’s worth what it lacks on defense does on the other end tbh
As you’ve already seen from others and figured out on your own, WT3 and 4 reduce your resistances by a flat amount (now that they’re fixed).
WT3 subtracts 25% from your resistance rating, and WT4 subtracts 50%. Resistances cap at 70% with some modifiers from various effects.
If you hover your mouse over the resistance in your Stats and Materials tab on the character sheet, it will give you a summary of what’s adding up and subtracting from your resistance and how close you are to your current cap.
