Please stopp that capping everywhere! Tempering size recept are capped, Paragon nodes are capped and now the new rank 5 ulti bonuses are capped too in S8. IT IS fun to specialice your build with different ways. Give all skills a Rank 5 bonus would so much more be enjoyable. This capping is only a easy way to streamline everything but not the funniest.
The entire game has been, and always will be, on rails.
Agreed. The caps are boring. Movement speed, attack speed, skill sizes, multipliers etc.
They keep making the little box smaller and smaller and it is decimating build variety.
I want to be able to choose between damage, AoE, utility. Hit soft but fast, hit hard but slow, big area low damage, mid damage and area, run super fast by trading off on something.
All of these options have been taken away.
Yeah and the reason are always some OP builds. Why dont adjust the specific outliers instead, not all ultis are complete crazy. This Level 5 Bonus add also a Tool to Balance the skills too.
If there was no caps, i can only imagine where the builds balance would be…
Agree with your opening sentence as being the premise of the topic.
I think all the interactions are pretty complex, meaning there needs to be a fair bit of analysis/detail to assess the merits of any one change.
I’m ok with them having a go at addressing the outlier builds with approaches they think will work from their analysis and see how it goes. There’ll likely be a lot of discussion on the details especially if issues continue.
I hear this sentiment often. Caps are a way to balance sure, the fast way. It’s not the only way though.
You can balance by looking at all possible sources for each cap and then making sure that stacking them comes at a tradeoff for that build.
It’d take longer but the result would be infinitely more fun for the player.
It’s def not the funniest but I’d like it to be hilarious
Capping is a sign of having made design mistakes.
Still, those caps might be better than the alternative.
The right solution is of course to fix the actual design mistakes. But fat chance of that happening.
What do you see these as being?
Cap is needed. that´s it. Do you like or not.
All classes are powerful enough. All classes has at least 1 build doing PIT 150 in this season.
Stacking of bonuses. A feeds B and B feeds back A. Stuff like that
Some are more obvious by description alone (Nature’s Fury), some less so, BUT
- Knowing D4 and it’s history of questionable takes
I’m like 99% certain of the main source of all those problems - high (borderline extreme) density of monsters
Ofcourse it is not possible to entirely prevent that but - keep it reasonable ffs
Many bonuses start on procs, and procs are directly related to amount of monsters hit at a time, such is lucky hit, crit, rune offerings, e.t.c.
The math is simple => have too many monsters on screen, and get too many procs in return. Don’t overdo with “trash” monsters and the game will get less ridiculous
They should’ve nerfed AoE, and they should’ve kept less density of monsters, keep a steady and cool head and invest into gameplay long-term, think of long-term solutions to those kinds of problems (active and passive summoners for ex.), instead of trying to shortcut criticism or complaints
Same/similar with snapshotting for ex., some people might be able to snapshot stuff and continue a buff - but it will be a deliberate action where they INTENDED to do that
They invested in the CDR and mobility to make it happen (not happening in the background passively just cause there happen to be too much monsters and them just play)
The game could (and would) have been about 100x better had they not care for blasting and HC, sadly they put those things on top of their priorities despite low amount of players caring about either
they nerfed all class ultimates with this dum cap when they only needed to nerf nerco’s ultimate bloodwave since it’s way too bonkers. like cmon stop the over nerfing n just nerf what’s necessary!
Putting a 200 cap on all ultimates is not a smart decision. Abilities are different and should have different caps. This just seems like pure laziness.
I think nobody mentioned it so far:
The better solution here is to use Diminishing Returns on values, so players are allowed to have fun in exploring a power source further. Stacking stats is a core aspect of this genre’s gameplay loop, so caps should be avoided as much as possible.
Diminishing Return means that as a player accumulates more of a particular stat, each additional increment of that stat contributes less than the previous one. In Diablo 4 this is applied to cooldown reduction or with defensive stats, basically where a developer doesnt want the player to reach a certain threshold.
There are only few affixes where caps make actual sense. Damage is definitely not one of them.
Every Ultimate that contains a modicum of power.
Instead of fixing Barb Ults, and Rogue Ults, and Necro Ults, and oh yeah, Druid Ults… devs decided on capping them all.
Seems logical to me, but there’s still big issues with some of them, like Overpower and Crit scaling for example with the level 5 skill power addition.
I think the “mistake” was putting in additional bonuses at the 5/5 Ultimate level.
Lacerate just becomes viable for one season and then must cap because it finally worked well.
when the devs see players come up with an efficient way to play, they put a cap on it.
Finally, while we like the social element of bossing, the efficiency gained from doing so in a full party is too high. Adjusting the boss summoning flow aims to make the experience more equitable regardless of party size while retaining a small bonus for social play.
Yeah before u tickle the daemons with it, a general cap for all ultis is not the right way in my opinion, the skills perform different. Sure Blizzard can Balance skills otherwise, but i thought this Level 5 Bonus ist a way to adress it and it would be an interesting way i think for all skills.
So has anyone looked at how hard this is going to hit builds running not Blood Wave and not Cataclysm?
Quantified by a pit shift would be clear.
Like that’s were they didn’t need a swing of the bat.
What should they give back to these builds if there is a heavy impact able to be demonstrated?
Help them out to help those builds if people are using and enjoying them.
