Maybe he can have a twin brother named Bernard Cain, Eckherd Cain or maybe Piccard Cain.

Maybe?

I would love this. All they would really have to do is throw in the twist that Deckard Cain anticipated his death so produced a clone illusion spell. That it was necessary for the prime evils to think he was dead because [insert reason here]. Imagine you’re fighting a big boss and there is no way to win, and you are near death than all of a sudden a bright light appears. A beared and cloaked Deckard Cain appears with the last thing we needed to create the weapon to fight back the whatever it is that’s killing us. When all hope was lost. Queue epic music!

It could be done and it would be an incredibly memorable moment.

Do it Blizz. C’mon. You can’t just kill off Deckard Cain. And it’s not like you can’t just keep the voice going throughout the ages. AI does that now.

I was thinking like a lost book of cain but it speaks with his voice maybe even projects an illusion of him. This is very Zultan Kulle stuff tho but I like the idea of the old master still coming back somehow to throw some wisdom words in your face. Doesn’t have to be a staple in-town click anytime character maybe just some special found books or locations.

Like the hero’s spirit in zelda twilight princess

Pretty sure he is in eternal torment as shown in Vision of Tristram

Maybe we will save his soul oneday if he is.

I don’t know about you but I think the voice for Lorath is a good choice to take on the Deckard Cain torch and carry it on.

And while they’re at it bring back Leah too. The way they killed her off was dumb it wasn’t like a heart wrenching. “Oh no! I can’t believe she’s dead this is so terrible!” But more of a. “Seriously? This is what they decided to do?” Leah’s character could of been easily expanded upon could of even been the new Deckard Caine but nah they decided to toss that out the window too.

I just…
Would rather pretend Leah never happened. Tho technically she’s Lilith’s second cousin.

Timeline wise Cain even if not Killed in D3 would have died by now.

Although in the Beta we saw:

Spoilers

This vision of Tristram with Cain just being freed from his cage.
Maybe we’ll get more historical clips such as how we are seeing visions of Lilith in the past

It’s possible we will see his legacy play a role here even if he himself has long perished.

Leah was a bastard child made by Aidan and Adria doing the sexy time while Diablo was inhabiting Aidan body, she was only created to be a host body for Diablo when he eventually made his return. Some of her life story was told in D3, and Adria even confessed to being her mother and the plans she and Diablo had for Leah.

Fair but I did enjoy Leah as a character I just thought how they handled her character development was short sighted.

Not with time spells!
He produced a clone of himself that was killed by a butterfly to make the prime evils think he was dead. At which point he created a time spell and will show up right at the necessary moment for the hero to succeed in the task.

Or at least have monster bestiary like in D3, after killing a monster for the first time, they drop a page, and Cain read it out loud.

Yeah if Cain doesn’t make it back at least have him read lore on new monster kills.

I hope they add that back I miss it.

Or we meet his spirit in heaven and he still guides us?

Change is hard to deal with, Lorath is his replacement.

We got two epic voices already. Lorath and Beric Dondarrion, or the Summoner if you want. Decker Cain would be overkill on most of our poor nerd souls.

I personally would be fine if they have the story of diablo 3 completely written out and pretend it never happened. I found it to be one of the worst story experiences of any game I’ve played in quite a while.
