Please fix it so it’s not so clunky! Let us just spin without it stopping constantly.
I would say make it when you use up all charges, it will consume your energy (e.g 20) instead
The real issue is the gaining chargers while moving is only counting moving away, if you move back and forth or in a small circle you will run out of chargers.
If you keep running away it usually doesn’t run out of chargers.
Could really use fixing or changing so we can just spin like a real man without stopping.
Agreed the build is so clunky cause its just so difficult to keep charges up and you often stop spinning. There has to be a better method, this is just unfun atm. Really hope a blue reads this and brings it to the team and we can see a change/update soon.
Is it really that bad? DOK seems to be ranking highly on a lot of tier lists.
I have fun with it and it is pretty good. There just some annoyances that go along with the skill.
You have to snapshot a lot of bonuses before you start the spin for it to do good damage. Which means you cast skills, proc runes and paragon powers, and other bonuses before you press the dance of knives skill. Then it carries those bonuses the whole time you are spinning. It’s great fun.
However, if you get interrupted at all you lose the bonuses and have to snapshot them again. This is annoying if you get interrupted only a few seconds after snapshotting. With enough movement speed bonuses you can spin indefinitely, but only if you go in semi large smooth circles or in one direction. This is fine in open areas or large arenas. But if it’s in smaller hallways and such you can’t move back and forth and it still count the movement to gain extra stacks.
So, I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all. It just has some limiters on it that are mildly annoying. If they made it so any movement in any direction regardless of how small counted for gaining extra stacks a lot of the annoyance would go away.
It’s still the most fun rogue build I’ve played so far in D4.
I’m playing DOK and I’m having a good time with it. The Maxroll guide is outdated so, you’re on your own to find what works for you. Let go of the infinite spinning and think of it as a generator spender build although you don’t spend resources you are generating extra charges. Smoke grenade with the stealth once per second and increased damage after stealth and using your potion for unstable elixirs. Sadly you have to get up really close because the Momentum key passive means you cannot use ANY marksman abilities so you have to use the melee cutthroat generator. Major damage reduction from Mythic Uniques was a godsend for getting up close to generate.
It’s a good build but just clunky because of the chargers and the way it works to get them.
It’s a fun build but they just need to fix this clunkyness.
On a lighter note, have you guys really looked at the animation for DoK?..I mean really REALLY looked at it?..
I was running hordes solo when I noticed this and I couldn’t help but laugh!
I mean the first thing that came to my mind was "What in the wide, wide world of Olympic break-dancing am I looking at here?!!! She looks about as graceful as RayGun! It’s SO clunky it’s painful to watch!
I’m still having fun with this build. Took some time getting used to re-setting after I run of charges…but it is what it is…
I was wondering, why dance skill is not Core? it was supposed that rogues to play a Core skil + Dance?
The Dance of Knivrs startup is intended to be that way due to how the intal GoD Demon Hunter worked which also had a start up mechanic. It shouldnt feel clunky…but then again I know alot of people who hate combo point builds, so eh. The build overall should be performing at a high level though.
It is though because it will run out of chargers and then you do no damage and run around like an idiot.
The builds damage and everything else is fine, it’s the clunkyness of running out of chargers when that IMO should not happen for it to be smooth gameplay and fun build.
I understand the issue now, I was misremembering how the aspect worked.
What should happen is actually simple.
DoK should naturally be a combo point skill and when you GAIN a combo point you should GAIN 2 charges.
Star Shards aspect would still work like normal but it would not have to turn DoK into a combo point skill. I would also change Condemation to be Core and Channeled skills.
I have embraced the suck and capitulated to the fact that I will be breaking channeling and using combo points. Between Danse Macabre & Synergy aspect having Concealment available is my priority and so put Resistant Assailant’s aspect on pants. As long as I can get an elite kill in then Concealment is back up immediately. It’s the only way that I can tolerate running Undercity and activating those pylons.
The mechanics of Dance of Knives are a bit oblique. It has cooldown but it doesn’t seem to be affected by CDR. Apparently Blizz just fixed it so that Prep will reset the charges but casting an Ultimate will interrupt your channel so we’re back to the issue of breaking channeling again. Maybe using the Petrify rune can work around it but I have yet to come across one.
As a baseline fix for the skill I think CDR should reduce the distance needed to travel in order to get the 4 charges back. With the Star Shards aspect enabling combo points the default number of charges should increase, preferably doubled. While I don’t think we should be able to spin forever in tight quarters, the above fixes would allow more time on target before we need to worry about ‘getting a jog in’ to refresh the charges.
why not spin with small place ? see all the builds every build hitting trillions , and rougue cant walk and hitting fine?
I spent 70h of game and my max damage is 300kk with a +12 set , if proc fist of fate i have 1 hit with 600 700 hits , but all another hits is 20kk 10kk 3kk , dont have dps to make this build work fine , need a cast twice , need a increased range while walking or need to buff andariel again to make this build viable with poison
I have give up the build and the game after spent 70hr trying to make this build happen , but no , this not work , barrage hit max 300 mil, heartseaker is down without victimize , dont have one build working , like a barbarian , and the bliz dont care about it , just give up.
Rougue dont have dps and i really lost time of my life trying to this happen , but no way , this class is dead , barbarian is dead 2 main classes deleted of the game.
I wonder if tomorrow’s patch will make a difference. Really looking forward to try the mythic chest tho.

Fixed an issue where Preparation didn’t reset Dance of Knives charges.
The patch just dropped and DoK seems a lot smoother now, I haven’t had to re-set so I think they fixed it
It might not have been directly a rogue issue. From today’s patch notes:
- Fixed an issue where the buff from the Qax Rune could be lost unexpectedly.
More consistent damage means not having to ‘hover’ around tougher mobs and being better able to move on to regain charges.

So after a little testing can confirm the new Preparation fix helps with keeping knive charges up almost all the time now, it rarely drops, you can spin even longer. But it requires you to have an ultimate which you can naturally cast having the BacYom Runes on an item.
More awesome news apparently if you pick Methodical Dance of Knives Mod, it turns your dance of knives into a grenade skill, so any aspects that increases your grenade skill will also increase the dance of knives damage.
So longer spins, and more damage, was a nice patch. Still not as strong as Spiritborn tho.
