Leaving this garbage skill broken may make a few non-gamers feel special. But the problem is the ultimate procs it almost all the time. So someone like me who is not using Ball Lightning looks to the other classes like I am one of these lamers who need it.
Keep it broken I don’t care. But disassociate it from the ult. My build is kick a$$ on its own. And it does not need garbage broken bs to devalue it.

Are you aware that this is seasonal content and about half way done?
The next season will have a broken build too. Oh and every season after that will have a broken build for about 3 months.
If you are expecting every build to be relatively the same (great goal) you will continuously be disappointed.
The issue is very clearly stated that it is tied to another skill an ultimate.
I can avoid not using one broken skill…but should that really impact all the other skills?
Kinda. I far as I understand if you don’t put points into ball lightning it won’t proc from unstable currents.

I think the hate toward Ball lightning is more about how strong it is plus how obvious it is when people run it.
I was in a world boss fight last night where a rouge literally one shot the boss.
But you could count how many BL sorcs were there and if it had been a 15 second fight instead of a one shot everyone would have blamed them.
Turn off cross play and you will see fewer people and fewer meta builds. Ideally you could opt out of having other players in your instance for events like world boss, blood harvest, and helltide. At least that would make some people happy. But let’s face it. There will always be meta builds and if blizzard tunes world bosses and other events to slow down meta builds the non meta builds will struggle more, have less fun, and be more pigeon holed into following meta players around to pick up cinders.
Is the issue here unstable currents + conflagration? Because I don’t think that’s even a huge part of the damage. BL wrecks in and out of ultimate. And dropping anticipation allows picking up another damage vampiric.
All the other classes you listed have options to not play broken.
I know I played barb to 100. Did not need broken. And more importantly could avoid it.
Here I have to give away my ultimate because of lamer skill I did not pick anyway? Just make them separate. Make the ult not proc the broken skill, how hard would that be? Probably even easier than fixing it or making a cosmetic.
It casts a core, mastery, or conflagration. The effect is way spread out. Not sure how many BL casts are actually coming from the ult. Plus, you make this change and then nerf BL in S3 and then the exclusion makes no sense.
I have seen it release up to 3 or 4 when I hit ult. If I hit a cooldown to generate mana, it can be more.
