I should have mentioned that you cannot see the buried chest or general location unless you have the map in your inventory.

Yes, if atleast one person in the party has the treasure map in their inventory, it will share on map with party members. All the details would need to be worked out to avoid potential issues, etc. I think creating treasure hunter teams would be a cool feature.
