I grew up on the Diablo franchise. In retrospect, I have to say that age (the late 90’s), online multi player ruined the Diablo games for me. Godly duped items in D1, Dupes in D2, rushes and Baal runs in LOD, trolls, spammers, and scammers. I still had fun, but I can see now that it was not sustainable fun. I was not engaged with the game, I was engaging with the multiplayer.
Then about 5 years ago, I discovered SSF (solo self found) in d2 (and even d3, pushing solo keys). I saw the game in its truest form, and engaged with it. For the first time in 20 years I actually ran through Hell Act 3, and I had so much fun. Yes, it was challenging. It was also extremely rewarding.
I am primed to love Diablo 4 and make it my new hobby. I had so much fun during the first part of the beta, that it was truly a let down to understand that I was being left behind. Having people run through my game, ruining the connection I have with the story, was not fun. Having a random player spawn in at the end of an event I worked hard on, taking the final blow, and robbing me of that feeling of triumph, was also not fun.
I don’t care if I have to always be online (a la D3 and D2R), but I would really love a single player option.

Honestly this was the primary reason that I refunded Diablo 4 yesterday…
The game is fantastic on many levels, but I want my single player solo experience where I am immersed in a dark world that I survive and explore on my own. I don’t understand why they removed choice from this game. Come on…
However: I will definitely keep a close eye on this game until it’s release. And if they finally listen to the player base and add in the option to play completely solo, I would absolutely re-buy this game in a heartbeat. Here’s hoping!

I think by single-player option the OP means “I don’t want to see any other players in my instance”. I was thinking about this as well - I suggest, it’s always online but there should be three “modes” of play and the world should scale (in mob density and intensity) based on which mode you’re phased into. And you can switch between these while say, in town. Mode one is like what we have now - you’ll see other players but the world is not scaled up at all based on how many players are working together. Second mode, party mode - like in D2 how when someone joins your world (so in this case, when someone joins your party) the intensity goes up. Third is strictly single player and you don’t even see other players and they never affect the world scaling (because you can’t party with anyone). Something like that…

Same. The biggest turn off so far is the whole MMO aspect of the game.
There should be an option to not see other players. In towns/cities ok, I could not care. Outside please no. World bosses ok.

100% agree!
Please give us the option to disable the multiplayer. Means no other players in our instance and being able to solo the whole game without limitations (including world bosses).

100% agree. And my single player option I mean #SSF (Solo Self Found). I don’t want to see others outside of town or public non-combat areas. Don’t mind seeing others in town to show off tmog but that is about it. I don’t want to see them in the open world.
And anyone else remember them saying we would rarely see others in the open world and they wanted it to be a shock when we did. However, I have been running across people in the open world every few minutes.

This is my biggest issue with the game right now aswell, i absolutely love the tone and ambiance but all that is ruined when i run into a group of other players killing everything in a supposedly eerie and dangerous area, breaking my immersion.
I don’t mind shared town or specific areas for pvp or world bosses, but there needs to be a way to explore the world alone or just your friends.

Amen! I do not want to play “World Of Diablo”. I like to be able to do it all alone like I did for D1, D2, and D3. My preference anyway.

Agree. Past Diablo games had multiplayer and the option to play solo.

Agreed on this as well. Seeing other players one shot killing all enemies in an area which you are trying to go through for the first time is a downer and making me hate for such MMO element in a Diablo 4.

I play this game solo and if I happen to run into others while adventuring, I will wave and carry on. Maybe help out if it’s an event or conflict area, but no other interactions beyond that.
Would I love for them to add in an option for the game to operate as a single player system with no internet connection, yes.
Of course they would have to add in a system to scale down some of the bosses and events because they are coded for multiplayer combat.

I agree with this. At least give us an option to have a private world instance, if offline is not an option, with maybe towns shared with other players.
Some of us don’t care about World Bosses or other events that require a large amount of players, and would prefer to keep the world for solo and friends only. I’m not interested in competing for mobs in Diablo, I do plenty of that in WoW.

At a minimum; in a solo dungeon, please allow me to pause the game. (Obviously this doesn’t work in the open world)
I have a family, and hate having to tell them to WAIT because i’m unable to survive in a room - or I walk away in a small corridor thinking i’m safe - only to return to find death at my doorstep.

See that is what I don’t want you to do. I want to see if I can complete the event myself, over come the challenge or be challenged as it is with T2 being easy. If I want help I will invite someone to my party.

well, does that mean you can’t play this game unless you are online? Did anyone try going offline and launching?

I agree, this is a great point. This should definitely be the option.

You have to be online because all your character info is kept on their server and not kept locally.

blizzard ,really? Don’t poop on something that remains one of the greatest single player experiences to date.

I wouldn’t mind that myself. Guess I wasn’t paying attention to the hype leading up to the betas, because I thought there was the option to play through solo, like 1-3 had.
