Maybe i’m doing something wrong but my issues boil down to 2 things:
- Enemies reset while you’re kiting them, wtf??
- Half of the elites seem to have that stupid suppressor mod wich basically means you have to melee with you crossbow
Maybe i’m doing something wrong but my issues boil down to 2 things:
Yeah. I will always miss my 1.09 psn stacking lv 42 multishot bowazon.
Blizzard has been unable to capture the magic of bow combat since then.
Welcome to Rogue where you have 3 choices:
The suppressor design in this game is extremely contrary to the glass cannon ranged playstyle of past Diablo games, then the camera view on top is another negative…
I mean I played a lot of Rapid Fire Rogue when the game first came out and it’s “viable”, but it’s not the same as in older versions for sure? ^^;
Yeah, even using a ranged weapon on a rogue, you just have to resolve to the fact that you’re still playing a melee rogue, use a crossbow (probably), and attack inside melee range.
It’s pretty bizarre.
Agreed, ranged rogues died with the vuln / crit nerf. Rapid fire was my main since beta and I’ve since swapped to HOTA barb because apparently there is a minimum required armor needed to prevent 1-shots and that minimum doesn’t change based on class. Absolute buffoon levels of game design.
We rarely agree on anything but this is so well said and on point. I felt that just never had the words to describe it so elegantly.
Actually this is true towards the end I was stacking attack speed and damage to close on ranged builds before I gave up and went barb.
Man, I honestly think we only disagree when we get into the weeds of D4. We clearly agree on alot of the higher level stuff, as well as how great the past Diablos have been.
Thank you! I noticed this at release, when I had rerolled my rogue like 20-30 times in order to theory craft and build something I could really enjoy.
Yeah, I totally get it. The “ranged” rogue in D4 is just a melee character capable of dealing suboptimal ranged damage before the enemies close in on you. I honestly don’t think this is one of those huge issues we need addressed ASAP, but it’s definitely a problem with the rogue’s playstyle/identity.
Man I just want a couple of thing pulled from D2.
I do want D4 to be somewhat of its own thing but I also want some of the D2 magic in the game. We look at uber D where uncommon unique are dropped at a high rate but balanced from mats. All other targetable bosses might be good for a couple runs but bliz messed up on target farming. Why do unqiues drop off each and ever run. It might make sense if smart loot didnt exist.
Just wait for the Demon Hunter DLC.
I’m not on rogue, but Suppressor honestly did not bother me till I added BL to my Sorc build, I kind of actually preferred it. Blizzard spikes are not impacted by it and meteor seems to go through it. But I run in one with my spinning balls and they disappear. WTF?? Really? Starting to dislike Suppressor now.
All of this stuff would instantly propel the game to an 8.5 out of 10.
Innovation is great, but in D4, they didn’t actually apply lessons that were learned in the past. Sequels are supposed to build on the foundation they already planted with previous titles, and honestly, D4 released as a devolved version of previous titles, now, they’re slowly adding haphazard versions of the great things the previous games had.
Just look at how target farming and ubers worked in previous Diablos compared to D4.
I’m hoping the big itemization changes for S4 have a massively positive impact, but only time will tell.
Yeah, playing pre-Season as well as S1 has made me either gimp myself by still playing as a ranger rogue (yeah I know, they’re way overpowered in S1 with poison trap build) but I wanted to play the archer fantasy archetype and my dps was severely lacking when I built it around pen shot rogue compared to say a poison trap or twisting blade builds, which unironically makes them quite melee and required to be in the thick of things to actually perform well.
I’ve never been a fan of how Blizz design archer class in any of its game. Hell, one of the best builds in D3 before the recent Marauders sentry set (and since S30 they’ll nerf it again) for the DH, a dedicated ranged class requires you to be within approximate melee fighting range to actually do something (in reference to the GoD6 set build).
Yeah, I use to love clearing screens of monsters on my Zon (in D2), bouncing the lightning javs between monsters, herding them into groups, and watching them explode.
Ranged certainly isn’t what it use to be in Diablo, that’s for sure.
The closest thing to ranged combat for me now in D4 is going BS necro, and unsurprisingly they out-dps any ranged rogue builds at the moment.
I am looking at this from 2 different ways and its moreso on the gaming industry and not so much a jab at Blizzard.
Tbf I quite enjoy D4 because im playing with friends. It does feel like a slog playing solo and I likely wouldnt enjoy it. D2 had timewaster hampster level pulling meph runs that was like playing slot machine.
D4 is plauged by D3. Jay wilson screwed up hard and the game was a dumpster fire even after the fix. Now us old timers who want a good game are plauged with the entitled D3 era.
Idk where im going with this i need coffee. But the release of new content is something gaming industry does to get returning playing and use the shop or buy a battlepass.
The proximity programmed pathing or patrolling in this case, is a problem. Sometimes I do run into this a couple of times. But, I try to counter this by fighting the elites and or enemies in the areas in which they are guarding. This is actually easier to manage then one might think at first glance.
If you are referring to the giant shield or the Vampiric like affix that heals mass mobs if you don’t kill the vampiric main host than I can understand the second one. I don’t remember the specific affix name, but that one is annoying. It’s like Vampirism just magnified.
This is true but why use the Crossbow for close range combat? The Crossbow has a slower attack speed than a bow does. Which is why if you are running in to that problem then you should be using a bow. For example, my current HC rogue is a melee ranged hybrid. My primary skill is Invigorating Strikes while my Core skill is Penetrating Shot. My Rogue currently is a 48? 49? I stopped because Baldur’s Gate III finally came out on Xbox Platforms.
With this combo I have a bit of a chance to fight close range and just can dodge to gain enough distance to do PS charges and then go back in with Shadowstep for easy backend melee strikes.
If you are using Crossbow I highly recommend Caltrops and cold Imbuement if you want to attempt to keeping to mid range fights with Rapid Fire as core for an example. But you really need to be aware on your positioning and know when to run when a fight becomes a close range engagement.
Just for reference I am a Hardcore player.
What?!? Penshot/RF is god mode RN.
I am a solo player. Same for Diablo II and Diablo III. Interestingly enough, I find Diablo IV to be an overall better solo experience overall comparatively with Diablo III Vanilla, Diablo III ROS and even Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition. Much of it just has to do with the obvious most easy to identify change and that’s the design overall upon the game world.
Did not like the wow influenced color and world design in Diablo III. It made the game high fantasy and Diablo was never high fantasy.
