So Blizzard recently said millions of players still play d2 & d3… I am wondering how many play d4. Did they comment on this recently? Seems like if those two games still have millions d4 should too.
they did release a yearbook for 2025.
Not really serious numbers we could work with, but still pretty impressive, with d4 having a 3.5 billion hours played, which leads to a conclusion that its i pretty big playerbase.

No they have not.
Anyone with common sense would assume so considering D4 will be the only one to recive 2 full expansions.

Let’s say everyone plays 100 hours per season… which we know plenty of people finish and move on in less… that’s over 11mil players each season. At 200 hours each, it’s still over 5mil.
So if that 3.5bil is a real number and not made-up marketing BS, it’s reasonable to think that D4 had millions of players in 2025.

i mean according to the yearbook this specific metric refers to “all time”, so not only 2025. Still pretty impressive really.
and yea, most of my seasons conclude slightly below the 30 hours mark, with s11 being a surprising change for once again with like 100 hours.

to be fair, i think most of them died out by now. I mean even the most persistent people that cry wolf on every occassion stop at one point or another when they figure out that they arent being taken serious.

Oops… that changes the math… without redoing it, i’m gonna suggest that we can still assume millions of players in 2025, even if it’s fewer millions.

Only game that sells millions and never comes close to winning an award or coming up with anything innovative. The McDonalds of the gaming industry.
I assume the game is probably meeting whatever metrics Blizzard has set for it. I’m personally coming back to play next expansion, I hope it’s fun.

Judging from the amount of people I see when I play D3 and when I play D4, I’d say easily 4 to 5 times as many people play D4. If millions play D3 then I would think 5 million playing D4 wouldn’t be unrealistic. Of course this is NOT very scientific. Just personal experience,

thats kind of the amount we assumed when there was a thread about that 2025 blizzards yearbook as well.
I am still active in the season, contributing to increase Blizzard’s numbers 
. I am no hater, still finding entertainment in playing the game.
The numbers from the Yearbook are meant to impress but give no clue on how well the game is doing. We know the game sold a lot of copies when released. Maybe a significant part of those 3.5 billion hours is from the months following release…maybe not.
I dont know why they dont just post them like they used to. Blizzard live player game numbers wont impact Microsoft stock. Its not big enough to matter (no offense, lol)
- Numbers are estimates from public signals (Reddit, Steam, Twitch); Confidence and Freshness indicate data quality.
Sorry but D4 is not an MMO and Blizzard has never posted the player numbers.

Well, we do know that they sold 10 million copies of D4 in the first month of release in 2023… so they have sold more since then of course. Does that mean that all 15(?!) million players are playing all the time. No, but it’s probably multiple millions of players every season.
… and now they are in China as well, so they are going to be racking up a boatload of players over there as well on the Chinese servers.
