Pit, No Masterwork Gear

So gave up on trying to complete season journey with Druid and made a Barbarian. Things have been so easy, I decided to dive into the pit without masterwork gear to see how far I could go before dying. Hit pit 45 with a level 93 dust devil Barbarian, no masterwork on any gear, glyphs at 15.

Anybody done something similar? Figure someone with a good build has probably pushed further. Curious how far.

Bash build or thorns build will get you 60+ easily with no master working. I got a 1 GA razor plate on my necro and I wanted to try the thorn build on a barb. It’s different, but fun. Then I switched up to Bash, even more hilarious.

Thanks for the info. Going to finish leveling and max glyphs to see if I can hit pit 60 with a dust devil build with no masterwork. A fun challenge.

I got up to 40 on my home brew conjuration/meteor sorc with no MW gear, no GA stats, no flame shield, no ice armor. And I can go much further since 40 was fast and easy.

Have a conjuration ice sorcerer that might be fun to try this with. Suspect it will be more mob and boss dependent, as my sorcerer is pretty squishy. Lol

I built for tank. 8k+armor, health stacking on gear, perma cc through various means (frost nova enchantment, lightning spear, meteor, hard cast nova), flat 30% dr via multiple glyphs, infinite shields with cdr for protection/elemental atunement/starfall coronet/barrier generation gems and temps/Unwavering aspect, and iceblades enchantment. Could get another 25% dr with Concentration Aspect if/when i need it.

You have any more details on build? I had a Meteor Conjuartion sorc (using frozen Orb) that was able to crush in PTR and finish Masteroworking but I couldnt get it to work when we went live.

I have tried to make meteor builds work since season 0, so curious what you came up with. Mine stalled hard around 50/60

Sure. I mean how much do you want? I never follow a guide. I always just do what feels fun/looks good. My gear is just have what dropped. I don’t have a ton of gold 24m was my max this season but I’m usually hanging around 5m cause i spend it constantly on Enchanting and MW and switching gems out and any other little thing I can tweak on one of my 4 chars lol. So I don’t buy anything in trade. I farmed up a Coronet from beast on the first shot, so that was exciting. Other than that It’s all just barely 1/2 decent 925 base gear with chants and any reasonable temper I can roll.

Build - Diablo 4 Skill Tree Calculator

I have a chest with +2 defensives, and I’ve been running teleport in the empty slot. But can run Flameshield if when I start to need to. So far I’m good up to pit 46.

Basic Idea —>
Run around like a crazy person machine gunning cooldowns with a flexible priority.
Keep up 3 Hydras (if you currently have a shield)>Ice Blades>Lightning Spear>Meteor>Frost Nova.
I will often cast frost nova with nothing around or on already frozen stuff just to keep the CD’s rolling for Iceblade enchantment. Everything is almost always frozen anyways and it’s up ALL the time.

Current char sheet stats

LVL - 100
Int - 1,070
AP - 14,280
Armor - 8,028
Life - 24,314
All Res - 68% and up

Crit - 30%
Crit damage - 50% (zero extra)
Vuln damage - 343.9%
CDR - 16.8%
Lucky hit - 74.1%
100% frost nova size
18.5% meteor size (does not include 20% size from glyph)

Gear/Aspects
*Starfall Coronet Required
*Wand/Stone for LH and CDR
*Exploiters
*Fortune
*Unwavering
*Ghostwalker (if you run Flameshield)
*Shattered Stars
*Battlecaster’s
*Serpentine
*Shredding Blades
*Conceited (on amulet)

Offensive Stats

  • Lucky hit, on the char sheet, up to ~75 (includes tree/paragon passive(s)) + Fortune Aspect = ~100% LH: This allows for lots of Frost Novas for CC as well as perma vuln. And pretty much guarantees your 1 every 10 sec Defensive CD resets from just a point or two into Elemental Atunement.
  • Attack Speed: More attacks means more lucky hits which means more frost novas and, most importantly, more iceblades attacks for more CDR for more Meteor casts and cooldowns for more iceblades for more cdr for more Meteors ect … Currently sitting at 39.3* bonus AS on the char sheet and I can barely keep up with the machine gunning of cooldowns.
  • Vuln Damage: Obvious since everything is always vuln from free frost novas over and over.
    • Meteor

Defensive Stats

  • Armor: Been trying to get up to the cap without sacrificing to much life and damage. In doing that I’ve been sitting around 8k armor and able to survive most non shielded hits up to Pit 46. Though I hardly ever get hit and when I do get hit it’s almost always with a shield.
  • Life: Life makes bigger barriers! Only have 4 pieces without life on them (wish it were 3 but my new boots rolled a natural +4 meteor, life regen, and something else I enchanted to move speed)

Temper - I’m always playing with these when I get a new piece. SO I don’t have a steadfast rule here for you.
Meteor size on 1 piece gets large enough meteors that the 3+ dropped from coronet will cover plenty of area.
Conj Damage
Frost Nova size (up to 100%)
Frost Nova CD
Health/Barrier Gen - not sure about which one, or both, of these yet. Still Have maths/testing to do. Same goes for gems.

Para Board -

“*” Shows I took the Leggo node
(min/max) Shows how many of the stat nodes I took to buff the glyph
All glyphs are buffed at least enough to get the bonus
Notes are rare nodes in the order I take them
I took all rare nodes in the glyph radius

Starter/Conjurer(max) - All rare nodes
*Elemental Summoner/Reinforced(min) - Swift Conjurer
Burning Instincts/Invocation(min) - Cut the corner where the Glyph socket is
*Frigid Fate/Adept(max) - Guarded, Advantage, Restorative
*Enchantment Master/Frostbite(min) - Ruinist, Elementalist, Suffuse Resilience

Bash barb has a high floor to get started out with as most of the power comes from the bash temper. Thorns barb also has a high floor as you just stack thorns/life. The only barb build that is heavily gear reliant is Flay, but even with BIS flay gear the play style is not casual friendly so most will not enjoy playing the build.

Barbs still hits the same ceiling as other classes and most players will get hard stuck around Tiers 130-140s with decent gear/affix’s. You will be able to break into 150s with BIS gear if you fish for monster/map/boss types.

Well I cleared 53 and it’s starting to slow down and get tricky. Still have tons of time left at the end of the run though.

Had to swap in flame shield (not using perma-shield tempers). Elites aren’t dying fast enough and they get their CC claws into me sometimes. Teleport wasn’t enough to get me out.

Probably going to throw in Concentration aspect for another 25% dr now.

Don’t care about pushing pit 150, but thanks for the build ideas. Just want to finish the dang season journey. Wanted to do it on my druid, but that’s unlikely at this point.

Was going off your post?

And why can you not finish the season journey as a druid?

Were you talking about hitting pit 150 with no masterwork on Barbarian? My bad, misunderstood.

And can’t finish as druid because I’m not doing a pet build (did that already) and can’t get Druid past pit 55 with new build. Was becoming boring grinding lower levels to try to upgrade gear to for a better shot. Already surpassed pit 55 that with Barbarian with minimal masterwork.

Yes, I could just go look at some site Druid build, but never had to do that to finish season journey with Druid before. Yep. I’m stubborn. Lol
