Can someone explain a couple things about the pit mechanics for me?
-first portal? Is there some reason/purpose for that first portal? What is the difference between the first area and the second area after the portal (but before the boss)?
I tried just running past enemies to that portal to see if I could get to the boss faster but there weren’t enough enemies in the second area and had to go back to the first area to spawn the boss portal which begs the question…why are there 2 areas at all?
-glyph leveling. I haven’t played in several seasons so things have changed quite a bit including leveling glyphs. I’m doing pit dungeons but I am not increasing in power enough to keep raising the pit level before my glyphs level up into the 10 level range of the pit I’m running so the new chance to fail thing lowers my chance to succeed at leveling which is counter-productive.
If I just stay at the same pit level I’m not increasing my glyph level because I will just fail upgrades but if I move to higher level pits they become so slow and tedious it’s just not an efficient use of time. It feels like I’m either missing something or this is a weirdly balanced system. I’m on Torment 1 btw.
you have to beat Pit65 to access Torment 4, wich will get you to Glyph level 50, after that you will have to go around Pit level 90-110 to upgrade your Glyph up to level 100.
For Dark Citadel, I’m not sure what you mean by first portal, but there is 3 Portals in the lobby of Dark Citadel, the first to the left is the first wing (strife), the second wing (souls) at the far right, and the third wing in the middle (zagraal) last boss.
The first room is just that; a first room. Clear as much of it as you can before moving to the next, but the first room is never something that requires you to double back and MAKE sure. Just play it like a normal dungeon and progress. This is likely modeled after D3 rifts, where every room was a different area of the map entirely. That’s really it.
For you to be 100% successful at putting a level into a glyph, your pit run tier needs to be 10+ levels higher than the level of the glyph. For you to get 100% success to put a lvl 14 glyph to 15, your pit level needs to be 25. To level the glyph from 37 to 38 with 100% success rate, your put level needs to be 48.
You are most likely slowing down at T1 because you need to gear more, or get more paragon. Around T1 you should be trying to get all glyphs relevant to your build to lvl 15 ( so you need to be pushing pit level 25) . After that you need to be hunting for better gear (ancestral gear) from Infernal hordes, helltide, etc. All the while getting more paragon.
I would strongly suggest doing the following:
Do nightmare dungeons until you find a experience pool.
Finish the nightmare dungeon that had the pool (obvi).
With the xp boost active, pop that sweet sweet opal and elixir for more experience boost.
Now do pit runs or infernal hordes until that pool runs out. You’re going to be gaining levels (more paragon) like mad while you’re hunting for gear and masterworking resources (infernal hordes or nightmare dungeons) or glyph leveling (pits). [Also make sure your seasonal boost levels are on XP as well, those smoldering ashes you get from the seasonal journey]
I hear you on pits getting slow and tedious.
You need to get those glyphs to level 15 and complete their requirements. This is that beginning “slog” you’re going to feel until you hit those glyph requirements and start tearing into T1.
I was excited when I first hear there’d be 300 Paragon levels, but the last 100 or so barely make a difference. Still, it lets me keep making small progress with my max-level character. Now, I can’t believe I’m chasing that tiny power boost just so my Rogue can push a bit further in the Pit.
Pit runs are similar to nightmare dungeons but also different in other ways.
Nightmare dungeons have no “Kill requirement”. You can run past everything if you want to (which I suggest killing everything you run past for xp, at least the elites) in order to get to the boss faster.
pit runs DO have a Kill requirement. There is a progress bar on the right of your screen that progresses with kills. It progresses vastly more with elite deaths. You need to be killing all elites and “most” trash in pit runs to get the pit boss portal to appear.
Sometimes I think the portal to the second level spawns too fast.
But I’ve only had it happen once so far that I had to run back to the first level after running out of mobs on the second.
It can glitch at times, I think.
There is also an outdoors map that you can kill all the mobs and it will spawn the boss portal without having to go to the second.
The reason why there is a portal to the second floor is is that the community didn’t like the fact that all the dungeons were one floor dungeons and we wanted some multi floor dungeons
As for what tier you should be running and glyphs you should try to be staying ahead of your glyph levels but your also not going to be able to just level up your glyphs all the way with out increasing your char power in other ways as well
Agreed. I play necro (one trick pony) and if I see a sizable enough pack even without an elite to nab with corpse tendrils, I’ll group them up and take them out. But outside of that totally agree. The pit boss is the end goal, everything else in that run is a means to an end. Whatever anyone needs to do to get that pit boss portal to open faster is always the better option, the XP you get from that kill outweighs the rest of the run.
Well that is the problem. I am not finding gear upgrades fast enough to keep up with what pit level I need to keep leveling my glyphs. So if I can’t increase my power with gear or glyphs how am I expected to increase the pit level? That was sort of the conundrum I was trying to explain. I have tried Helltides, NM dungeons, pit etc…but just feels like I’m not going anywhere.
I do have some single GA gear but it’s not ideal and I haven’t found enough of it to even synchronize my aspects properly so I either have to downgrade my gear to non-ancestral and put more appropriate aspects or stay with more powerful gear that isn’t properly synchronized with proper aspects.
I’m at 147 paragon with 4 glyphs around level 30. Just feels like I’m doing something wrong or maybe I’m not understanding the expected progression method or something.
Yep, it’s like on SB running Vortex. Sometimes a decent amount of trash gets pulled in with the Elite fight.
Or, if it’s a sizable pack and in your way, then grab them up and kill them quick.
I thought it spawned at first as well until I decided to just run past all the mobs and found it at the end without killing anything so I think it’s static as opposed to spawning from kills.
Well, I think those are problems overall this season.
Upgrades are difficult to find.
I’m not sure why, other than others have said to slow us down?
It took me til the other day to find one GA pants.
I can’t imagine the frustration on classes right now, other than SB. And even running SB, you need certain requirements for gear.
Oh yeah, and needing a different pair of gloves. Good luck on those.
It has been pretty much confirmed that legendary aspects are soft capped around the 16/21 progress…
I’m not sure how to verbalize that correctly, but if you look at your codex completion, you’re going to notice a lot of aspects at the 16 out of 21 progess level.
For some reason this season, they’ve made it more difficult to find the higher rolled aspects on dropped gear. I believe someone stated that those higher percentages can only be found on ancestral gear… and with ancestrals so difficult to find… it’s almost impossible. I had to trade to simply get some of these aspects at higher rolls because the game felt so hellbent on not allowing it to drop.
On top of that, half or more of ancestrals have less than desirable stats. So the difficulty definitely got ramped as far as drops go, that’s for sure.
I haven’t bothered with MW anything. Seems like a waste at this point. I always temper the gear and enchant if required. I am following a guide and that is why I was focused on the pit to get obols and try and get build enabling gear from the vendor but this all feeds back into the same problem. I mean I guess I can just keep running lower level pit and failing on glyph upgrades and just get obols but that feels pretty bad and like a waste of time.
Are you finding upgrades in ht and horde?
I gave up on those. Things changed for sure.
I ran like probably 100 Duriels the other night with friends, maybe more.
No uprades for uniques, but I did drop my Shako for a speed build I want to do.
It’s insane on finding upgrades.
