Pit Leaderboards when?

I’ll save you the trouble. Spiritborn.

Dark Citadel speed run leaderboard.

I’ll save you the trouble as well. Spiritborn.

They are only 63% of the playerbase.

D3 doesn’t have private profile, D4 does.

You aren’t gonna see much besides the players’ names and what they’ve cleared if leaderboards get implemented.

Not sure. Seems like a no brainer. I think they don’t because then people would easily see how badly the balance is in this game.

In the meantime, this isnt official but you can go here and participate or simply look at the builds people are using.

The game has become more and more like D3 with each new update. The original vision of D4, building multiple characters of the same class for different builds (like D2) is being replaced with a single character for each class using an Armory system to swap builds freely. This means you don’t need to create more than 1 character per class, just like Diablo 3, reducing the game’s longevity without “new” and “fresh” seasonal content. You look at Diablo 3 now and check on how many people actually play the game. It’s significantly less than Diablo 2 because there is no updates for D3 anymore. Seasonal content is being rotated, and it’s no longer fresh or new, so there is no draw to bring players back to D3. Diablo 4 will have this same problem.

Diablo 3’s lack of PvP also kills off the draw of many players that continue to play PvP in D2. There is literally community driven leagues and tournaments being run even today for D2. Cooley runs his Diablo Fighting Championship league (aka the DFC) every week on Thursday and streams them. It’s been going strong, and getting more and more players as well as support over the years, even when D2 has not been getting any meaningful updates. Diablo 3 does NOT have this because the PvP is so broken and no one wants to do it. Diablo 4 is leaning towards that path as well, with class balance being so lopsided, that Spiritborn can hit for gazillions of damage. Even if PvP is not something the majority of the casual player base would be interested in, it’s a very important part of the game for a minority who would continue to play it for years and years AFTER the casuals have already left for other pastures. At the end of the day, the dedicated players are more likely to spend money on RMT cosmetics, or more likely to buy future expansions, are more likely to pad the stats for shareholder meetings on playtime than the casual that plays the game for the campaign and quits before hitting level 50.

Diablo 3 was incredibly unbalanced and people cheated a TON. Adding Leaderboards will be another step to making Diablo 4 like Diablo 3, but it will also incentivize people to cheat MORE than they do now. It will also rewards those that cheat, and those that abuse bugs, etc. I’m not a fan of it, but at this point, Blizzard has already made up their mind and will likely add it in.

In any game where trading is the key to the most power the fastest there will be incentive to push any advantage you can.
LE has some great ideas how to deal with this

Class balance is something that the Devs are very poor at handling currently. It’s just not a priority, as they seem to believe it doesn’t matter for their revenue.
To fix the game’s balance issues, they need a full team of good programmers, that are dedicated to this. As it stands I would bet the full programming of the game is preformed by contractors out of country, to reduce costs. And under only the list of changes to perform, per patch.

For a fully featured game, that players feel they can really get into multiple facets of play, a well thought out PVP integration is key. And it’s very sad this isn’t a priority.
But lets be honest with each other about Diablo 4, the programmers can barely handle intriguing non PVP content.

Leaderboards serve to increase the excitement of playing the game in general, but with such poor balance and exploits galore, leaderboards would just be something the players just don’t care about.

I still play D3 almost every season, and love the game.
The Armory is a huge plus. I would never create multiple of the same class due to the time investment compared to just respec, and the lack of char slots.

I play D2R often, and absolutely have loved the game for the majority of my life.
A new ISO Arpg that has similar systems, with current QoL, GFX, and gameplay flow is the dream that may never come to pass. Mostly due to the current majority of gamers not being interested in what we are. It’s all about instant gratification and Memes these days.
