From what I understand, D4 is going to have a personalized rotating cosmetics shop, perhaps with some sort of algorithm determining what’s available to to any particular player for purchase, based on items the algorithm “thinks” the player might want.
This is going to potentially feel awful if I’m not seeing an item I want because your algorithm isn’t functioning in a way that lets me access the item for purchase. If there’s a Sorc outfit I want, and week after week goes by without the game granting me the ability to purchase it, but other people have been able to purchase it and are walking around wearing it in-game, I am going to be irate. Sounds petty, I’m sure, but it’s true.
If I’m playing a Barb, but I’m eventually planning on rolling a Sorc and want a particular Sorc MTX, how is the algorithm going to know that? It won’t, obviously. I’m not sure how Blizzard is planning to avoid potential problems with this system, but I hope this doesn’t devolve into bizarre gameplay strategies to “trick” the algorithm, such as people leaving a character online while they’re AFK (or even using automated gameplay tools) to accumulate more hours on certain class, or some other goofy algorithm-defeating methods that are probably unintended.
It’s highly likely that users are going to try and figure out how this system works, and you’re going to potentially have bogus information floating around the web that purports to instruct players how to manipulate it. “You’ll get 50% more Rogue outfits in the shop if you play Rogue at least 15 hours a week.” Etc.
I’d far prefer a normal (non-personalized, non-rotating) shop, honesty. If Blizzard is going to keep the system as is, I think they should give us as much information about it as possible.

Yeah I don’t think they were really clear about this. It seems like a weird system and could make them miss out on a lot of sales. Maybe this is just in game and there will be an out of game shop where you can buy things too? But you are supposed to be able to use the wardrobe to see how the stuff looks on your character. I feel like I misuderstood what they were talking about or they weren’t explaining clearly.
ETA: Maybe when you are playing your barb you will only see the MTX for him but if you switch to sorc the MTX will switch to sorc?
It’s to manipulate you and trigger FOMO sales…“if I don’t buy this armor now it’ll rotate out on Tuesday and may not be back for months”.

Yeah I mean that’s just pure marketing. They want you to buy it, cuz you don’t know how long it will be before you see it again.
Not a fan, but I do think it’s better than timed exclusives. Hate that sooooo much in games. I can tolerate that with the season pass as far as that goes haha I’m just glad there is no P2W.
Edit: Changed by to buy
Man, if only people had those tiiiiny little things called personal accountability, and self control… instead of just blaming everything and everyone for their shortcomings.
“They target fomo”
Well, sure, be a damn adult and realize its not important… and say no, to yourself… lol.

How about I’m adult and realize it’s only going to get worse and more predatory and with better psychological manipulation so instead of passively taking it I start boycotting every game doing it and trying to get as many people as I can to join me?

Um…
Sure. Good luck to you and the weak willpower society I guess…
Can your motto be “look what you made me decide to do of my own free will?”

You are going to end up playing no video games.
No, what I’m going to do is pirate everything, and bring them bad publicity, and convince some people to not give them money. If I were to do any of that (to be fair, personally I’m probably not going to…but someone will…eventually…after it gets worse…because of attitudes like this).
Remember how we are all enjoying horse armor? Have fun enjoying 97% of games actively trying to scam you in some way. Maybe you can resist everything…but that design comes with other downsides.
You are going to end up with no games not designed to be time hog live services that try to form habits.

Wow, Diablo 4 has progressed to the point where it’s trying to sell you things you are likely to buy. They call that… uh… normal sales.
If you ever went shopping for something in your life, this is was IRL salesmen do. You tell them what you are looking for and they guide you to the correct wares.
It’s actually a brand new technique that has only been used for thousands of years. Even websites utilize targeted advertising.
Lol, normal shopping is looking around at all that a store has. As if normal shops change their entire inventory every week or two. And anyway, this is buying clothes for video game characters online where there is no space limitation, unlike in a physical store. It can all easily be on display for us in D4. They’re choosing to do this to trigger fomo, which is a crappy thing to be feeling when we’re supposed to be relaxing with some video game entertainment. Lol, it’s perfectly normal sales, we’re the weird ones if we have a little problem with that system, right.
It’s also probably to trigger our excitement at seeing and anticipating something new whenever it refreshes – keeping us interested in what’s coming up next. It’s definitely an effective way to keep us hooked.

Did they mention if Battle Passes are gone for good once they expire? Rotating shops are alright if content cycles frequently though chances of seeing returning cosmetics after years of content would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
i believe everyone will have access to the same items in the shop at the same time. the recommended stuff will just be at top of list or in a specific eye catching section. not that two people will have different items in shop at same time.

From what I understood, and this is part supposition, but from what they said, it sounds like:
We’ll have a curated shop “homepage” of sorts, that will be based around what we’re playing the most. However, we can access anything that’s currently up in the rotation for any class. Also, there is no FOMO, as nothing will ever be vaulted, and will always end up making its way back into rotation.
The rotation is going to be the shop and doesn’t care about you or anyone else.
The personalized bit is the storefront which will select pieces it thinks you will like out of the current stock rotation. You can still see or buy everything else in rotation using the menus.

Preorder, prepurchase, limited time, special edition, limited run, opening day, seasonal, etc. It’s all the same.
If you shop outside of Walmart, they have salesmen in stores. These people guide you to what you are interested in - most obvious are car salesmen.
All you guys are doing is pretending it’s not YOUR problem of having self control and FOMO, it’s the company being evil for doing things that are rather normal.
If I miss out on something cool, I shrug because I have missed out on thousands of cool things over my life AND I still have opportunities to get more cool things in the future.
Well when it parses your stash and sees sorc aspects… … …
Edit: Then since big data will sell bliz all your google searches looking up sorc stuff
Then it will get creepy while your eating a baconator, and The Horadric Hamburger shows up in the cash shop you’ll believe…
Car salesmen dont prevent you from buying anything on the lot, silly Xelqypla…
