PC Freezes when closing Diablo 4

Since early access this has been an issue. It exists all over reddit, it is seemingly incredibly common, and as far as I have seen, not a tracked issue by blizzard support.

It is not a hard PC crash. It freezes one’s PC anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Possibly scaling with how long the game has been active. Which leads me to believe it is a memory leak issue. But if you have the game open for a long period, when exiting, the PC will freeze for several minutes before finally closing properly and un freezing the PC.

this has been reported a few times, but i fail to see any acknowledgement of this issue which is well beyond a simple in-game feature bug.

Same issue. I can’t close the game without it becoming unresponsive to the point where I either tab over to task manager to force quit or a pop-up comes informing me the program is unresponsive. I often get disconnected when portaling to Kyovashad.

This is still happening, even after the last update. My PC is unresponsive up to 1 min.
I have no issue with any other game or application.

Same issue as everyone else. Game runs fine and then PC freezed on exit.

Yep, confirmed every time exiting to desktop, the game freezes from 10 seconds up to a few minutes minimum when unloading. I just upgraded from 16Gb RAM to 32Gb RAM to see if there is a difference in cache’ing and its negligible if its even calculable. Its not a VRAM issue or a CPU usage issue.

The longer you play, the longer it takes to unload the game upon exit. Very bad coding.

Same, also freezes/lags after teleporting to areas

Same situation here for the most part. If I close to desktop or for whatever reason get disconnected and the game closes, my entire PC freezes for a solid 2-5 minutes. Can’t even move the mouse.
From what I have seen on reddit threads, this problem is more common with Nvidia cards.

First of all I apologize for my non-native English, since the game started I had random problems sometimes I played 4 hours other times 2 or 3 hours, there were days I played 40 minutes and the whole pc froze and the sound of background and I had to reset the pc, it is very unbearable to play like this even so I have been in the game for 28 hours luckily or unfortunately, the game does not matter in the textures that you place low averages it always ends up eating a lot of vram, I was reinstalling drivers I was cleaning the pc and I don’t see temperature problems at any time, I can do other things on the pc I can play other games perfectly, it only happens to me with diablo 4 and I hope they take the bug or the problem I have seriously, I already talked to the support I sent many tickets and they have my dxdiag msinfo fenrisbug they have everything, anyway my pc is a ryzen 3600 16 ram at 3200hz and a 5700 amd radeon pulse with 8 vram, I reiterate that if it were temperature problems I would restart my pc or something, but it’s just that it just freezes and I keep hearing the background sounds aside, it’s hard to replicate the error because it doesn’t always happen the same.

Started happening few weeks ago, either battle.net update or diablo 4 update, on exit screen completely locks for circa 60-90 seconds. really annoying!

Have not had this issues 2 weeks ago, but last night this bug pops up for me! Its funny that blizzards Q/A and basic programming engineer’s can’t catch this massive memory leak! But im going to leave the game for a mouth and hopes it will be fixed when i come back.

Thanks for a buggy updated blizzard, i guess you guys are jerking microsoft off and hoping they will buy you / Activision!

yes it a know issu, actualy kill process exe is more fast vs the classic way.

I’ve had the same - eventually led to stack buffer overflow messages and being unable to boot pc - needed a windows reinstall - will not reinstall this game until bug is fixed - annoying as they have already taken payment and appear to sit back and do nothing

I have same issue today.
Keyboard and mouse no response when close the diablo4.
I have to reset the PC hardware . . . .

Getting the same now.
Scanning and repairing in Bnet next to the play button to see if anything is there. After 100% it just said “…reclaiming space” then done.
It just exits normally now to desktop; I assume it found something and fixed it.

my game hang when i try to close it.

Just had this randomly happen today. My system completely locked up for 30 seconds to a minute after closing the game to desktop. Never seen this happen before today.
