Pause is not a thing

I hear you. Also, I never played earlier entries of Diablo so you are aware of things that I am not. All my guildies though also played earlier entries though and they have made it clear to me that this entry leans far more heavily into the online aspect of things. So… I don’t know. Blindly trust your assessment or stick with what these 5 other people have told me? I don’t have my own experience to lean on here, other than any game I have ever played for 30 years that titles itself an “online” game and requires you to be connected to the internet to play.

Yes, I hate that it is online only. Have never liked playing Diablo with other people.

Not always. The 150-200ms lag spikes might sometimes give you enough time to react, but oftentimes in D4 the lag spikes are much higher than those. Sadly they’ve become almost predictable in world boss fights and I’d be surprised if HC players bothered with that event anymore. I strongly suspect the Barber malignant heart as the culprit in these instances, though rampant botting in certain other areas has also caused very similar effects despite the use of sharding tech (I’ve found and witnessed this multiple times and even reported it).

This is true only up to a certain point, and that point depends on what event(s) the server sees first. Your client sees the actions after they’ve already occurred on the server side. If you’ve died on the server side, you aren’t getting out of it on the client side nor will queued actions save you if the actions make it to the server after the event that causes character death.

Again, see above. You got lucky. It’s nice to be lucky, but it isn’t something that’s a constant.

pretty sure pirated copy will reign if its not online only.

so, as all stories start, my guild was doing 25 man naxxramas. we are coordinating, i think we were doing the last boss (or the second to last, cant remember exactly). the way the guild did loot was tanks first, healer second, dps last.

i keep hearing a siren in the distance, but it wasnt always audible, probably because its so far away maybe? i dont know why, we go through a bunch of attempts at which point our tank says “hold on guys, i need to open the door for the firefighters” discord explodes. “what are you talking about?” wtf is going on etc etc etc. reply from the tank? “my house is on fire, but i dont want to lose the dkp or place in line to get the tier set, just give me a second”

we downed the boss.

he then had to vacate the house.

hero.

We are fortunate then that you dont review the game. Diabolo is a solid 5/5!

TP is your pause function.

People do world bosses in hardcore along with everything else. And yeah that often lags and that sucks but that doesn’t stop most people. This also confirmed that you don’t actually play the mode and are just theorizing how things work in practice.

“You got lucky. It’s nice to be lucky, but it isn’t something that’s a constant.”

Certainly some luck. But surviving thousands of lag spikes over the span of like 20 years isn’t just luck. Nor is it theory. It’s a fact / skill / pattern call it whatever you want which is what separates the people who rarely die in the mode and those who die constantly due to lag or otherwise. I have never died to lag in D4 playing HC from Day 1 (the never part is indeed lucky as I had enough close calls, but everything else is me knowing what I’m talking about, knowing what to do, and how to play to maximize survival odds).

Regardless, none of what you’re saying is a reason to deny having a pause feature (in solo instanced content) which was my original point and is what this thread is about. It’s a pure benefit to everyone for various reasons even if it’s not consistently helpful in all cases.

But there is an offline mode…when the server decides to disconnect me.

It is quite a frustrating mode.

I think you mean “online mostly”.

what online game has a pause feature? And why on earth would ANYONE use wasd to move in a diablo game?

Nobody likes disconnects! I hate that too. Sucks a lot. However, offline mode would mean you can still play without internet.

I have not had coffee yet and am still groggy. I suspect you were joking and I am not sure of the tone.

Beverages for all and good morning (or whatever time of day it is local to everyone).

I generally am, even if I am mad at a disconnect.

Diablo 3 on PC has a pause feature if you are in game alone. When you create a solo game there it is a single separate instance - and you can pause - sort of. It temporarily stops activity wherever you are for a short time. HOWEVER the AFK timer still ticks and when that runs out it returns you to live action for 10+ seconds before disconnecting you. It is not a get out of death free card. So it is not really a safe option to use to go AFK.

WASD I love as an option for movement, esp for strafe. Diablo Immortal has it and I do use it quite a bit in addition to the mouse. WoW too which is where I got used to having it.

It is reasonable for people to enjoy different control structures in games. I would not put someone down for asking, even if it is not a control scheme I use.

No, I’m not at all worried about leaving a game to fix a RL issue…and I don’t really understand why you would make such a strange argument.

This is better, good job. Yeah man, me too, I’m going to interrupt my play to satisfy any RL requirement…wouldn’t it be nice to not come back to a dead avatar?

It won’t make everyone happy. But using a controller is very much like WASD.

I imagine it would be frustrating with ranged builds. But seems top notch with melee.

I unbound move from basic attack on MK. Bound force move to left click and basic attack to scroll wheel. Love it. Until my finger started to swell because of all the mouse scroll wheel rolling. Then I bought a controller. Lol.

It would be nice if I didn’t risk character death because pizza arrived at my door, this is true.

But that ain’t even in my top 20 of “wouldn’t it be nice if…” ruminations.

It would be nice if these forums were properly moderated. THAT’s in my top 20.

If you need to pause simply hit T and port to town. Then when you are ready simply click on the circle and you will be ported right back to where you were. Simple.

Needs to refresh after using all my mental energy to get my dentist’s new x-ray sensor up and running before their next shifts. Got that done, but left a note regarding needing to block the software via the firewall as a TWAIN driver (or its associated executable as most have such in the dental realm) should NOT be needing to connect to the internet right at the moment of a patient scan. Ever. So got the practice protected.

No, I mean only. There is no way to play the game unless you are online and on the server.
