Patch 1.5.2 Ninja nerf to hordes aether drop

Pre 1.5.2 patch I’m carrying a friend with my Sorc, even he having no build and doing zero damage we manage to get at least 700 aether average, sometimes 1000.

Few days later he comes back with full andariels rogue build (full decent masterwork) and coincidentally i put a lot of work on my sorc, so both have way more damage now, we can notice in the council dying super fast in T8 hordes.

Patch 1.5.2 drops and “magically” we can’t get higher than 650 aether because all boons are terrible, most of runs are 400~500 aether at most. We thought “oh its just a bad luck streak” but after 4 days in a row its not coincidence anymore.

Masterworking sometimes require 30k or more mats for a SINGLE piece, getting that amount now requires a lot of time and effort, and honestly we start getting annoyed of doing hordes all day non stop. Now its MORE THAN CLEAR its nerfed, I don’t really get this obsession from developers to nerf anything or everything that gives the players a bit of edge or an opportunity to breathe.

Boons now are clearly weighted like all the rest of weighted systems you devs have, like tempering and masterworking which while being called “RNG” systems, curiously always fall in bad stats 99.9% of the time but even community itself just blame this to be “bad luck”.

I hit 1300 In a full party T8, had pretty much the absolute perfect run of boons u can get, most of the T7’s I get 700-900… And we got super super blasters. Idk what to say man. The boons really matter, and a lot of the trick is knowing how to make the game give you what u want.

Sometimes runs are 400 and 500 with mega blasters, sometimes it’s 1000, sometimes things don’t seem to be spawning, sometimes I get spires even though I have a whole selection of hellborne and elites. Idk what else to say. Your choices influence what has a higher chance to spawn, but I doubt you DONT know that.

Is it ninja nerfed? Doubt it, it’s just all luck of the draw man

I agree, seems aether drop was heavy nerfed in the last patch.
Pre patch just made a solo t8, got 950.
After the patch my max is 600, average 400-500.
My lowest is 350 t8, this was immpossible before the patch even always selecting the worse boons…

We noticed this as well.

We should keep an eye on them… but how?

Man I know EXACTLY what boons to get, i think at this point every knows what its good and what is bad, that’s its why I’m sure about the nerf, no one have to be a genius to figure it out, Sorc decent gear + zero damage rogue getting 700+ sometimes 1000+ pre patch, now i invest A LOT on my sorc and the rogue of my friend its FULLY geared and masterworking dealing a lot of damage and suddenly we getting 500 ?

Of course we thought about being just pure bad luck so we wait, but 4 days later of constant 400 and 500 average aether ? Bad luck ? Really ?

Its quite simple before patch with weaker builds 700 to 1000 aether post patch with stronger builds 400-500 aether, how this makes sense if its not a nerf? A 4 day non stop horde bad luck streak ?

I agree. I did two T2 runs back to back last night. One offered me poor choices, and I only got 128 aether. The second offered me great choices, in the right order. I got over 300 aether.

Welcome to 2.0.

Ha, so it’s not just me then.
I noticed a lot more crappy choices than before and of course a drop in aether to 500ish from 700-900 before.

Me too noticed that. I would do some iH7 runs to doublecheck but im in :sloth: mode atm.

Wanted to chime in on this as well.

I had a T7 give me less than 300 Aether. It was without a doubt the worse run I’ve ever seen, I didn’t think it was even possible. I had exalted hordes come up 4 times, not a single hell borne, or elite choice.

Following that I got another sub 400 run, same thing. Just no choices that lead to anything meaningful.

It’s anecdotal, but since the hotfix I’ve consistently had absolutely awful luck with the choices, and virtually no 700 or above runs. Something feels really off.

Just made a 300(!?) T8, and after that a 850 T8.
The 850 run had 4xExalted Hordes = 200% faster events, and not so many hellborne+

So it seems both the chance for good boons were nerfed and less hellborne spawns.

at this point in time doesnt realy matter though…season has already finished and most of us are in ptr planning the next one! so nerfs/buffs are realy unimportant.

No they are not unimportant.
Some of us like the game and still play S5, for them/us it matters.

The patch didn’t nerf aether drops directly, it seems to have merely jacked up the soulspire spawn rate to extremes. I’ve had entire waves of nothing but soulspires despite 1) never picking those boons and 2) choosing something else that should spawn, well, literally anything not a soulspire (e.g. I’ll choose Hellborne and get…soulspires). I’ve had waves where I’ve got four spires up simultaneously and have no choice but to get rid of at least one or else no other event can spawn.

What do you expect , all the no lifers were screaming about how great the t7/8 hordes were for mw mats , wtf you think they will do. Everytime a boon for players is trumpeted on the forum and elsewhere , the nerf bat , wont be far behind , you guys are idiots to think they would let us have fun and progress.

Yeah, same

Hellbornes and Elites boons all the way…3 spires

Ok…

I even tried NOT doing spires at all, like ignoring both spire boons and spires just to see what happens

More spires

Once you get more than one spire up, you need to get rid of at least one of them. A spire that’s up means no other event can spawn there. This is probably the biggest reason the Exalted Hordes boon isn’t really much of a boon at all unless you’re on the low end of damage for your IH tier and need the boost to get more events spawned in total. But on the flip side, if you chew through monsters like a hot knife through butter, you could easily end up with three more spires spawning while you try to take down the first one, or worse, you do what you did and ignore the spires and suddenly all of your events are spires. And if all of your events are simultaneous spires, those mob kills that would normally trigger another event are wasted, and unlike hellborne or aether lords, spires despawn if not completed before the timer hits zero (aether fiends also despawn, making them slightly inferior to hellborne as a result).

The devs have to know by now we hate these types of events. We don’t do them in helltides, we avoided them for the most part even in season 2 where they were at least rewarding to an extent, and won’t touch them if at all possible in hordes. If they wanted to truly throw us a bone since we have a shortened season, they’d disable the spires entirely along with the associated boons. That won’t magically increase the aether we get since we could just as well get all masses when we chose non-mass boons, but at least it would eliminate the one type of event nobody likes doing, period.

Yeah i keep farming this up and now its way more difficult, everyone says this game has to be “grindy” and i agree to that but, to what point? It is this balanced? Right now i have to masterwork 2 builds that i want to push and i know from experience 30k neathiron its not even close to being enough to masterwork 2 builds, specially necro who requires 8 pieces of gear with triple crit on it in the same stat, so now i just open my eyes and realize i found myself in the same spot i was previous season, previous season i get extremely jaded doing literally hundreds of pits 101 just to masterwork something, this season hordes help a bit in it was FINE the way it was and i mean FINE not even decent and not even close to good, and yet devs nerf it without saying a word which make it even more infuriating.

The game get to a point that doing hordes and helltides taste like … if you know what i mean, and i don’t think that is good for the game at all. What i know for sure there is only two types of player that defend the “grindy” state of the game, the ones that have nothing to do and can play 8 hours non stop every day, and the ones that are using bots to farm everything, to both of these players obviously its “convenient” for them so they defend it and don’t care about the rest of the players.

So what i don’t understand is WHY Blizzard cares so much about nerfing things that benefit the players ? Hell if they care about other things the same way they care about selling skins and nerfing anything that remotely benefit the player they probably have one of the best ARPG in the market.
