To this date, I haven’t tried to make my own paragon board path. I’ve studied the skill trees and don’t mind making my build via the skill trees and gear aspects. But the paragon board is still something I copy-paste from content creators and build guides.
I wing it for the leveling experience mostly.
When I need to get serious I turn to outside sources (Maxroll etc), as I’m an IRL potato and have no clue what I’m really doing.
At least once per season, but eventually most boards all start looking the same. Grab 1 or maybe 2 legendary nodes depending on your main source of damage and then try to fit in 6 glyphs because that is where you need to look for Damage + DR at endgame and stacking flat percentages is the way to go because the paragon system is a bit bland. Its a simple system really once you look through a few paragon boards from a build guide or two.
I have no problem taking advantage of number crunchers who have spent the time figuring out the most efficient way to use glyphs and paragon points. Could I make my own? Sure, but I’d take significantly more time, and I feel I would eventually come out to the same outcome anyway.
I’ve done completely from scratch and also started with guides. Starting from scratch I end up pretty close to what they have anyhow. Easier to just start with the guide and modify. I can usually tweak the guide ones to be more efficient and get a few more magic nodes out of it.
Considering there is like 7-8 boards and most builds use 4-5 its unreal to even attempt to do “your own” boards except minor changes
Some tips for lvl 100 char board that I can share:
- Put as many damage glyphs as you can (since they are multipliers) and ignore the additive nodes
- This usually results in 6-8 boards
- Walk backwards and add necessary nodes like resistances, see if your nearby glyph can enhance these nodes
- Add some additive damage (preferably if they are multiplied) nodes if you have spare points
- Max the glyphs if they are multiplied (e.g. crit damage)
You should.
At first, it seems like all the power resides in the Ultimate Nodes - but that’s a lie. The Ultimate Nodes are usually out of the way, costing you 20+ Paragon to get to them. They don’t level up, either.
Glyphs are the overwhelming power boost, especially as you increase their levels. Most of the “power” builds hit up 6, sometimes 7 Glyph slots. Pay attention to the surrounding Magic/Rare Nodes to make the most out of the Glyph slot.
Make your own, have fun!
I always make my own to start and then compare it to other builds. My barb this season came out almost identical to Rob’s meta but that’s not all that surprising because there’s only so many glyph combos you can do and fit them in. I ended up changing to better match his as some of his path choices made more sense. I didn’t copy it one for one I just looked at it and thought ahhh and went and recreated it from what I remembered seeing.
My druid is 100% my own and I’ll probably keep it that way and just play with some glyphs over time. This is my first druid so I want to learn what things do before copying anothers build, unlike my barb which I already know how to play so copying someone who has infinitly more time than I do to perfect it is fine.
Ive only copy/pasted the BL sorc last season because of fomo. Everything else ive done on my own. If you understand dmg buckets its quite easy to homebrew
I go on how I feel when I get there on Hardcore. My Necromancer is on her second board going for some magic/ rare clusters that beef up my golly.
Only if you need the absolute max max output relative to your gear which the copy and paste doesn’t cover.
LOL no
I copy a guide and barely even look at what each node does. If it had the ability to import paragon – and I desperately wish it did – I would do that and never even look at the damn thing.
Say what you want about Diablo 3 but that paragon system was way less annoying than this one, and much more intuitive to just do yourself without having to follow a guide.
I have and let me tell ya, it was a mess!!!
Yes! I always make my own. Paragon, Skills, Gear, Seasonal Theme, etc etc.
It is one of the more fun things, for me, to do in D4
I use maxroll guide to Hota barb
I do my own, though I have checked out many of the boards that appear on the d4 sites. My own end similar in design but often I use fewer boards and populate each board more fully and/or they are not in the same order but do tend to be the boards common for particular builds. Each character I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t, but I still don’t end up with builds that are OP. So far I’ve been able to clear into the t90’s with my rogues, and I’m working on a barb this season, I don’t know where he will end up, but I’m hoping OP lol.
I’ll always do my own until desperately needed.
Last season I was struggling with the teens in AoZ. Had to go Meta and it was indeed easier. But I’ll only swap if I’m desperate. I like the idea of having made my own.
I do my own board as well. I appreciate all the work some streamers have put into their boards… They have proven over and over every class can decimate in NMD/v’s, that is a very good thing.
I just walk my own path and am having fun doing so.
I always do mine. I open the max roll at work and think about the best alternatives. I delete it and do it again, until I maximize it. I open a spreadsheet in Excel and compare the damage, armor, etc. I love doing this.
