Which is better between the two after S4 release? I see that a lot of builds are using vulnerable dmg. Does that mean that overpower is weaker now or irrelevant? What do you guys think?
You can’t build towards higher Overpower chance so Overpower is for the specific few classes and builds where you can build for guaranteed Overpower. Everyone else should simply ignore Overpower.
So it is still viable for Barbs?
It’s “viable” for Barb sure but is it as powerful as the current meta builds in push ing higher pit levels? Nah.
So vulnerable dmg is the way to go for now until they power up overpower again?
I think this really depends on exactly what class and build you are planning. But for Barb, I have not heard anyone building for Overpower this whole season.
Barb mainly. I’m just trying to see what’s gonna happen in the future. Because before in S1, vulnerable dmg was the way to go then that changed to overpower. Now OP is gone and vulnerable is back again. It seems like Blizz is cycling through the stats and character’s power every season.
Your question is a bit of a non-sequiter.
Overpower only suits very specific builds and skills, and vulnerable only works when you have regular access to vulnerable.
You aren’t generally choosing between “overpower” and “vulnerable”, you’re choosing a build, and what that build is defines what you build toward.
Barb isn’t a build, its a class. Certain specific barb builds use overpower, and others can build toward vulnerable.
Yes, I know that. I should have emphasized that I am gonna use it for barb and if all stats, skills, builds are accessible and all stars aligned, which one would be better to use? Meaning, which one of them would be more powerful…overpower build or vulnerable build?
Impossible to answer. Some skills and builds have zero access to overpower. Every build has some form of access to vulnerable, but at varying levels of uptime.
Vulnerable is definitely the more flexible option, but overpower generally scales better when it is able to be used. Generally speaking though, you still want vulnerable AS WELL as overpower even on an overpower build.
Ah ok. That clarifies it better. So it is still good but vuln is more flexible build-wise. I was just wondering because a lot of barb builds this season uses vuln. I have yet to see any overpower.
Well, like I said; the use of overpower is entirely defined by the balance of skills that logically use it. If a skill with overpower scaling is top dog, overpower will probably be better. If the popular skills being used are not overpower skills (as is this case this season with bash and bleed builds and thorn builds), overpower is useless.
That can change on a dime based on how Blizzard decides to balance said skills next season or balance patch.
It’s like saying “what’s better, wheels or wings?” Both are mandatory for their relative jobs - if you’re building a car it’s going to have wheels, and the vast majority of the time planes will have wheels too, but wings do nothing on a car but basically define the plane.
Very true. Thanks for your input. I appreciate that.
vulnerable is more valuable atm due to those legendary nodess on the paragon boards/skill trees r still uncap. I wish they could just remove the cap again for whatever they nerfed the hell out of already. that’ll open more viable builds.
I agree. The devs killed a lot of fun builds in the process. I hope they bring the fun builds back.
Among the meta builds only Rogues and Barbs use Vulnerable, because they have builds that specifically scale damage off the Vulnerable stat for multipliers in the thousands. I think Sorc has one in the Cold board too, I forget, I haven’t run a cold mage this season and it isn;t exactly meta because it hits like a wet noodle.
Overpower is used but your entire build has to be focused on Overpower. One example is the Necro Bone SPirit build which is focused entirely on using Overpowered Bone Spirits to deal billions of damage per shot.
Diablo 4 in Season 4 is all about stacking the appropriate damage type to scale your multipliers. If you don’t understand this you won’t be able to progress in pit unless you copy some meta build. Look up your class’s paragon board legendary nodes and your capstone skills. Those are where the scaling multipliers are usually found.
For Rogue this season it’s Victimize (capstone) that scales off Vulnerable, Rogue can get around 2000%x multiplier by stacking Vulnerable off this capstone.
For Barb they have Hemorrage a Legendary Node, which stacks off Vulnerable. They combine this with Gushing Wounds which scales off Critical Damage for a gigantic multiplier, which they blow with Rupture for billions of damage.
Making a build in Diablo 4 is all about finding these multipliers in your character sheet and building them up with the approriate damage. If you don’t undresand this, you won’t get past Pit 60, so be sure to understand what’s happening.
Overpower Barb is weak this season because other builds far outshine it. Nobody plays HOTA Barb everyone plays Bash or Bash Bleed or Bleed because the multiplier on Vulnerable and Crit Dmg here is so huge.
There is some attempt to use Death Blow Overpower but it hasn’t managed to catch up to the Bleed Barbs yet.
I agree. OP has blood rage legendary node but it is capped currently at 30% and this is why OP is not so powerful right now. I’m thinking about reviving HOTA this season since I have DD/DS and Bash/Leapquake going. But it seems like the current consensus is that OP is not that great compared to Vulnerable so I may ditch this project and just stay with my DD and Bash for Vuln dmg. Thanks for your input.
Bloodrage scales off Berserk Dmg, not OP, just FYI. But yes it’s capped at 30%x.
Vulnerable is strong for Barbs simply because Hemorrhage is uncapped, so it goes up as high as they can get it, but most barbs don’t stack Vulnerable that much because Critical Damage gives them a much bigger boost. So they have two multipliers to scale and the optimal amount is to scale more Crit Dmg over Vulnerable.
Rob’s math says you should stack around 5000% Crit Dmg and around 500% Vulnerable or something to that effect.
Oh yeah. You’re right. I got confused. Lol it’s almost 2am here and I am still grinding for neathiron.
