The Overkill unique item that supposedly grants all upgrades for free, does not do what it says at all. After allocating one point into Death Blow and testing, none of the upgrades are applied at all. This bug has been in the game for quite some time and still has yet to be fixed. All you have to do to test it is equip it, allocate 1 point to Death Blow, then slam the test dummy is Kyovashad or Temis training grounds - no upgrades applied. I’m fairly certain this entire unique effect is bugged or just doesn’t work. Even if you choose one of the Upgrades, such as Sonic Boom, the others do not get applied. You can test this by selecting the Sonic Boom upgrade, then attacking, then verifying that the burning damage is not applied from the Blast upgrade that should do burning damage over 5 seconds. Addiitonally, on the skill tree, “Modifiers” and “Upgrades” should have their tooltips updated to show that they are either Upgrades or Modifiers. There’s no transparency as to what qualifies as an “Upgrade”, and vice versa.
The Upgrades refer to the Side Grades and not the Skill Variants. This means:
- Overpower
- Execute
- Charges
- Fury Generation
The thing is however is that these Upgrades are bad. Pretty much everyone is going to take Fury Generation and Overpower and use The Third Blade anyways so all it really does is save you 2 Skill Points when Skill Points don’t really matter anymore.
Charges is only good when you are first starting off and want to level using Deathblow (not recommended). When you equip The Third Blade, it changes to if you kill an enemy using Deathblow, the next cast does not cost any Fury. Well, that is cool if you do not use Red Ring, or Banished Lords, or WoTB Maximum Carnage or anything that spending high amounts is a good thing. In S13, this is actually good since you can get Crit Capped without needing to rely on Red Ring, Seligs is there (so BLT is less attractive), and CoTA tends to be better than the 90 sec CD WoTB.
TLDR - This means Overkill could actually be a BAD thing because it gives you Charges for many DB Builds.
Overall, it is actually okay with Third Blade but Execute’s functionality does NOT change with The Third Blade, it should. It still says it resets your DB cooldown on a successful Execute. If you didn’t know, most enemies cannot be Executed and the ones that can, you are going to pretty much one shot anyways so this Upgrade is kind of garbage.
Regardless of this, I agree the Unique power is bad when we have Hellhammer that gives Iron Burst Variant. Overkill should instead grant Sonic Boom which allows players to choose either Consecutive or Blast which would make this Unique S-Tier for DB and offer a lot of flexibility.
