Ok so ive been playing this game for quite some time, i was part of the very first beta in 2023, both open betas in 2024, and have been playing each season. Its great to see how this game had grown from missing environmental assets to where it is today.
But i am now starting to hit a wall at end game, just like i do every season. It has been 2 weeks and with days of deliberation i have come to a conclusion.
This game needs a larger over arching goal, something that is a resource sink. Something that will eat up all those resources and give you a reason to continue to play for a longer period of time. As it stands, the seasonal quests end and all that is left is to grind for gear repeatedly, the only benefit is to beat lillith and then everything is done. No need to play again. For another 3 months. I personally feel that if a game like this is to continue to be successful in the long term the seasons should compound. Rather then each seasons quests and events be retired. That at minimum would give players more then a weeks worth of content. However, i think path of exiles settlers of kalguur really smashed the head on the proverbial seasonal nail. Its a longer player driven, resource sink.
Something that will continue to be beneficial to a player over the long term of the season. This essintially provides the player with a longer and larger burn. As it stands in diablo 4, the resources hit almost like a softcap. Once you hit so much of a resource you will never ever run out no matter how hard the player tries. And all that is left to do is grind for gear that essentially is purpousless.
Anyways this is one mans thoughs, would love to hear other players opinions.
