What would you guys say should be the order in which we do things as we level - advance the campaign and then go back and do dungeons and Lilith statues? I am finding myself getting pretty easily distracted from the main story campaign because of everything else that pops up on the map ![]()
Do the statues as you level, at least. They’re a decent power boost and will help. I’m doing most of them after the campaign and a little over halfway through the boost is noticeable.
i did a bunch of side quests and events while doing the main story, nothing wrong with that of course. Sometimes i just get in the killing mood and want to keep going.
Ideally though the “experts” say to do the main quest up until you get your mount at least then run around and get all the statues and then finish the story and level cap
The thing about the mount. It will certainly help speed up getting to places. But it also lowers the xp you will get, as you’re not killing stuff. I’ve run the campaign a few times already, and the first time I was near 50 on completion, and the other times, I had to do a lot of grinding just to get within level range of the later zones. Those small monsters you get from running from one point to another add up.
For my experience still haven’t completed the campaign and im 53 right now. I spent most of my time in Act 1 to be exact nearly mid 30-40. I was doing the side quests, Dungeons, Statues, strong holds, and the random events on the world. I spent a good chunk of 4 hours looking for the statues until it got to a point. I simply couldn’t be in the fractured peaks no more due to how much time i’ve spent even in the previous beta’s.
I went on to Act 2 and changed up how I was progressing. I’d do a quick search of the area for the statue. Skipped the side quests that took me into a dungeon ( will revisit later ). And worked on the Side quests / Story quests. I Finished Act 2 at 49 and completed Act 3 at 52. Act 4 recommends a Level of 40.
All in all, I’d say enjoy what you enjoy doing. There is no right or wrong way to tackle the game. I just felt like I was over leveled for what I was doing.
Personally did the campaign and the dungeons that had aspects I wanted. Did a small amount of sidequests, but I wanted to leave them to WT3 so I wasn’t left with nothing but “endgame” mechanics when I got there. Now in WT3 I’m doing sidequests, completing all the dungeons, completing the cellars, reading the random villager dialogue and other things.
One thing that surprised me doing this is that some of the characters actually have unique dialogue for doing so. Octavia has some special dialogue when starting and ending her questline if you do so after finishing the story.
- Collect all the altars for an act.
- Clear all areas fog of war.
- Clear all side quests for that act.
- Clear all cellars.
- Clear all dungeons.
- Finish act quests.
Repeat for every following act.

Here is a resource which will help you keep track of the things youve done, as you proceed through each act/zone. It’s free, and an extremely powerful resource.
It doesn not violate any ToS or EULA with blizzard, it is just a web based map with interactive and trackable legend elements
https://mapgenie.io/diablo-4/maps/sanctuaryOf course it’s preference, but it is real easy to drop to tier 1 with a mount and get altars. Real real easy later. The one drawback is the story doesn’t open the whole map so hard to compare locations to find them sometimes.
If you want your mount and loads of XP (campaign quests are double or more XP than side quests), as well as to see the story before it’s spoiled, I definitely vote focus on the campaign. Pick up statues on your way. Campaign sends you to some dungeons, though if you have a build in mind, maybe unlock some aspects.
Also, you definitely want to do your stronghold for your class. Getting my boons for my druid was insanely helpful.
I was originally going to completely clear each zone before continuing on in campaign. But then I wasn’t sure if I needed to complete things once I opened Tier 3 so I started just doing enough to complete the first 3 objectives, including doing a full exploration.
I grabbed Lilith statues as I saw them but am missing most of them still. I’ll go back after I finish campaign.
To unlock Tier 3 you need to complete campaign, then beat a specific dungeon on Tier 2.
Yeah, I mean I didn’t know if points would carry over and automatically complete the two Tier 3 renown objectives or if you needed to do stuff after you opened it.
I need to finish the campaign soon anyway since spoilers are already popping up.
That I’m unsure of. I stopped questing and doing stuff in those zones after completing the 3rd mark on each just in case it wasn’t being added to those reps. I only unlocked T3 last night.
That was my thinking too. ![]()
Hopefully I’ll be done with campaign tonight. Darn work getting in the way now lol
My only tip is that the last quests in the last story act are against level 45 monsters, so that’s a good target level to be at when you get there. I did almost nothing but the story on my current character and got all the way to the end of the last act when I suddenly hit an unexpected wall because I was 8 levels too low. This was super annoying and there should have been some warning like at least tell me at the start of the act.
Anyhow, do some side dungeons and stuff along the way so that you’re a reasonable level through the story content. Getting the extra skill point from each Renown zone and maybe do dungeons in one or two for the extra potions is a great option.
Or if you can play on Tier II difficulty that might be enough to make up the difference as well. But this can be substantially slower depending on class and build and drops luck.
Play it the way it feels right to you.
I did things as they came up and I enjoyed the world and story a lot.
You are not meant to breeze through this, and you are meant to learn and adapt from struggle.
You can’t do that if someone else tells you what to do.
I wanted to enjoy the story so took things a bit slow but put a priority on going through the campaign to get the Mount and opportunity to unlock WT3 as soon as I could. I was Level 45 by then.
I activated a bunch of the side quests along the way but didn’t go out of my to do them (by chance I ended up completing several of them just going through the world). But you can only have 20 saved up). But I did enough of them to get Reknown to unlock the first 1-2 in most regions (to get +1 skill , +1 potion). Also completed whichever dungeons to get the aspects needed for my build
After campaign was done, with Mount in hand, I then did a bunch of Lilith statues to increase stats which helped with the Capstone Dungeon. Many are way out there so unlocked waypoints and did the dungeons in those areas.
Get carried through campaign in a few hours, get carried through both capstones, and then get carried to level 60 in 1-2 hours.
But in seasons prob just get carried through capstones and then to 50-60 in a couple hours.
Aside from doing a few dungeons where I wanted specific aspects and doing a few events if I was passing by and saw them I just stuck with the campaign and by the time I was done with it (on WT2) I was about a bar away from 50 and ready to go right into the capstone dungeon.
It wouldn’t hurt to take your time though so you were about level 53 or higher when you do the capstone dungeon as it will make WT3 a bit easier for you.
Get the mount first. Whatever that takes. There’s no mechanic that can replace that level of consistent movement speed increase. Basically any step you would have to take in the overworld can be boosted with the mount.
Sure you could be thorough and do every side quest on you first go around, but I think the time you would save by doing that would be easily made up for using the mount later. Especially on you first playthrough where your logistics are likely to be less than stellar.
