Not a lore guy but I do enjoy listening while traversing (think D4 NMD letters or PoE Labrynth journals) and from what I’m reading they’re leaning into that type of storytelling even more in PoE2.
Me personally, if POE 2 doesn’t have a decent story…something I can understand or relate to… something to Want ME to push/progress my character along then that’s about 40% Boring for me.
To me, Story helps with motivation, motivation to move forward and do extra things/activities just so I can unlock lore secrets and hints.
Ruh roh on POE 2 then.
It’s like going from POINT A to POINT B with not enough Cause.
While an ARPG that has a good story would make me Want to go to POINT A to point A.1, to A.2, then to POINT B (for example).
i think the classes in d4 have much better class fantasy. d4 does melee way better as well. and story. I hope melee feels better in poe 2. can’t wait to try poe 2 out.
I personally couldn’t stand the D4 story as soon as the token DEI shoehorn character came into play. But I don’t usually pay attention to stories outside of good ones like Kingdom Come Deliverance, etc.
Erm what? PoE 2 has way better class design.
class fantasy not design. A barbarian you know what they’re all about in d4. same with the druid
classes in poe pretty much determine where your passives start and your ascendancies can switch things up a bit. great freedom. not as much class fantasy.
Im not sure what you mean man. A sorc is a sorc. A witch is similar to necro minions. A warrior is a warrior can two hand or sword and board. A ranger is a bow guy. A merc is like an fps dude. A monk is a monk. Like wdym?
what i mean is you have so much flexibility classes don’t really have much fantasy. you can make the same build on 6 classes in poe. they will play the same but have slight differences in damage or defense or a chance to kill an enemy instantly as an example.
a marauder can be a bow user like pathfinder build but more survivability anf they both use bows and play the same for example.
that’s not really a negative. poe has incredible freedom. at the cost of class fantasy.
Yeah it dont work quite like that.
it does. i was going to try a build one league and the choice i had to make was between like 5 classes.
K go on PoE2 and try and play sorc with a bow.
That’s why gameplay is king, because neither story is anything special or makes you wanna do it again.
maybe it’s different in poe 2. i haven’t tried it yet. some of the ascendancies do look interesting in poe 2. i don’t think any reach the heights of class fantasy as the barbarian in d4 for example.
A warrior absolutely feels like a warrior as does a sorc absolutely feel like a sorc.
Ptr, for umm a textile worker is pre-loading somewhere, or i might be lost
Yeah their delivery of the story isn’t the best
But make no mistake it’s a dark and awesome story all the same it’s more hp lovecraft
That was my issue with one, i didn’t like the base classes, however once i tried it and got further it made more sense, but still marauder didn’t have the same fantasy as Diablos melee classes. 2 Has more appeal already in that area so we will see.
Diablo also has those classic sound effects that are hard to match even simple things like potion sounds.
so is a mercenary a necromancer? or a witch? people think mercenary might be the best undead army build in poe 2 because of it’s legionare ascendency.
I mean I guess. I havent really looked at merc much because I dont like the playstyle.
What I am saying is… if you can build your class fantasy then what difference does it make what others are doing? Your class fantasy is your class fantasy. Having more options is a good thing because then you can build your class fantasy.
Be playing both reguardless, just one might take over for awhile, I love Mortal kombat hands down my favourite fighter and the one i am best at, but i enjoy many others, SF, TK, SC, etc. so
