Been playing since early access and only play necro. I’ve probably spent close to 300m just on respeccing my paragon points and skill tree. I’ve tried every build you could think of. Bone spear, blight, blood nova with the unique neck, and any and all variations in between.
The build I’ve settled on has gotten me through NM 80s so far. Still working on pushing higher. I really struggle with suppression mobs. I swear ring of Mendeln procs are bugged on them.
Anyway,

With this build your minions can crit for up to 2m+ with Mendeln procs.
My stats are:
8023 ap
5867 armor
18,057 health
You can sac iron instead of blood if you want for more crit damage but you lose out on a good chunk of health.
Play style is pretty simple. Pull with decrepify, wait for your reapers to spawn a corpse, tendrils then bone prison, and 90% of the mobs will be dead. Use BCE while you’re waiting for tendrils to go off and to finish off any stragglers.
With decrepify lucky hit procs, neither tendrils or bone prison are ever on cd very long and you can basically chain cc most mobs.
Sometimes I will move points from Army of the Dead into blood surge if I find I’m getting CCd too much.
If minions respawned whenever we died I would likely permanently do that for this build, but with the way you can just randomly get one shot in higher tiers, I usually keep AOTD just for the ability to recover quickly if I die. I don’t find I need blood mist very often. With this build it’s pretty easy to stay in distant range and cc mobs consecutively.
Also, I used to use a wand + focus but switched to a 2 handed sword, so you can ignore the offhand stats. Since Mendeln procs scales with your stats, crit damage is an extremely good stat for this build. With tendrils buff up, which is basically always, I have 67% crit and 365% crit damage.
Anyway, just wanted to share the build for anyone that might be struggling with minions like I was for so long. This build has really been miles ahead of anything else I’ve tried.
