On Patch Notes Formatting

One thing that strikes me odd with the patch notes is the inconsistent formatting of skill increases/decreases.

For example:

  • Frenzy
    • Damage increased by 10%.

Vs

  • Quickshift
    • Damage bonus increased from 5/10/15% to 7/14/21%.

The second example is clear. It tells the reader what the previous values were, and what the new values are.

Whereas the first example just says 10%. 10% of what? 10% of 100 is a far different value than 10% of 3. Kind of like how the Uber Unique drop rate was “massively increased” by 1000x - but it’s a tiny, tiny number and even with 1000x magnification, it’s still tiny.

patchnotes for pro gamer

You realize that the link you listed addresses none of the issues I posted about, correct? It has links to the abilities, which show the base value, but not the value increased per skill point as the example from the Blizzard Notes of Quickshift I showed.

Here’s Bash from your link:
Bash

  • Damage increased by 10%.
    • Fury gain increased from 13 to 15.

You can click the link for Bash, and see it starts off at 30%, but what is the value increase per point?

So while the formatting is better, it still lacks information.

ok calm down bro, anyway its just 200% better than original

Like handing out the same pamphlet that plagiarized the original. Good job sir, you are the weakest link.

that’s what you get if you want to make 10000 posts this year with all your might

You got a ways to go, better start posting.

I agree.
Imo - There should be a standardized format, editing(for spelling and proper word usage) etc.
This isn’t a nickel and dime company though fluctuations in Patch Notes is frankly …‘telling’ and is a bad look overall.

Anyway.
Nothing beats these patch notes:

Specifically:
1.3.0 Build #49213 (All Platforms) - January 23, 2024

Worst notes of the game to date.
Was a  moment for sure.

Frenzy
    Damage increased by 10%.
Quickshift
Damage bonus increased from 5/10/15% to 7/14/21%.

The first one indicates how much damage of a skill was increased. The second one is about a static increase of a damage bonus. (percentage)

Yes, it’s inconsistent, but at the same time you’re comparing active skills (which have 5 levels) vs passive skills (which only have 3 levels).

As for your question, that 10% is additive and applies to the original base damage. If the original is (for example) 15%, the new damage is 25%. Then with each level of the skill you gain 10% multiplicative (2.5% additive).

So it would look like this:

15/16.5/18/19.5/21% to 25/27.5/30/32.5/35%
(Omg, it looks worse than I thought , maybe this is why it is not consistent…)

Sure, it’s inconsistent. You will have your answer on Tuesday when the new patch goes live.

where the inconsistency ? You known frenzy got a 10% buff.

10% of what?
Is that 10%(x) or 10%(+)?

In the same vein, Quickshift above shows a 50% buff, but the notes tell you with actual values.

Or maybe it can look like this, which is clear and concise.

  • Bash
    • Base Damage increased by 10%, from 30% to 33%.
    • Damage per Additional Skill Point increased by 50%, from 3% to 4.5%.
    • Fury gain increased from 13 to 15.

I know, genius, right? And it’s funny - even the Fury increase in Bash references the current/final values.

lol, never really noticed it, but yea now that you mention it i cant unsee it hah.

i mean, its not a huuuuge deal. i assume that might happen due to multiple people setting up the notes maybe? but yea, wouldnt hurt for sure if they kept them consistent in their formatting ^^
