Analyzing the Sanctification system, I have these conclusions:
The possibility of getting it as garbage and ruining most items is extremely high.
Most results are useless or do nothing.
Replacing one base affix with another is perhaps the worst of all.
For most items with multiple GA, it’s preferable to leave it unsanctified because the risk of ruining it is too high.
This thing isn’t a progression system; it’s a system of complete frustration.
Extra bad issue:
The most serious problem that I see, is that even if you try Sanctification by farming many items with 1 GA, the amount of resources and time that you need to try again is ridiculously frustrating, since first you get the item, then you change an affix with the occultist, then you add an affix with the tempered one, then you improve it in the masterworking to obtain the extra GA that you want, to finally have it fail Sanctification, and then repeat the process again, ufff very boring and tedious.
On top of that, limiting how you use your gear is also a horrible thing, super punishing thing that makes no sense, All the downsides of having items that can’t be modified through Sanctification:
Not being able to change aspects. It’s very common to have the same build but have one version for pits and another for speedfarming T4 or Hordes. Sometimes you only have to change one weapon aspect with the Occultist, and that’s it, it works for whatever you want. Sanctification forces you to have the same weapon twice, one for pits and another for speedfarming, since you can no longer change the aspect with the occultist.
The waste of time spending on improving an item, only to have a bad result, too much wasted time and disproportionate punishment.
This closes the possibility of versatility to use your items and limits the transition between builds, since there were certain items that you could use in several builds, which sometimes you had to fix by changing the aspect on occultist to make it work.
The system punishes you too much in many ways, mostly giving you terrible and obsolete results.
Back when I occasionally played PoE (I haven’t played PoE2 yet) I never played it long enough to ever care about or bother using a Vaal orb.
In D4, it has much more limited systems and options but pretty much everyone playing engages with all of them to some extent. I guess that makes it trickier to include these types of things since more people will actually bother using them.
Maybe D4’s mistake is it isn’t overloading you with options so every individual option is more heavily scrutinized compared to other ARPGs.
Sounds good overall,
They should just get rid of Indestructible.
And maybe also do something about aspects. Either not being possible to get at all, or only get with a lowered effect? Seems too strong otherwise. Or only get non-offense based aspects? Dunno.
This is a good thing tbh. More meaningful crafting decisions.
It seems like a system mostly designed for buffing weaker items, to make them more viable, rather than one for making the best items even better.
Could be the reason yeah. People just seem to expect everything all at once here.
So the things that give these bonuses are hopefully hard to get so I think we can either remove indestructible chance or make that better and also have the player accept or reject the bonus its going to give could solve the issues. This was not my idea but another person. This only works if the sanctification things are somewhat hard to get though. There is already a precedent for this as that is how enchanting works.
no, d4 players are babies and the playerbase are EXPECTING perfect outcomes with no rng or risk.
Using a system that explicitly states it CAN make your item worse than it is or it CAN make it better, then people are like ??? when they use it and come running to the forums and reddit “this sucks, this is D4, its not supposed to be PoE gimme all perfect items pls thnx”
When the game spoonfeeds you practically everything you need to complete all of the content (aside from climbing pits), and then they put in a system like Sanctification, people expect to get power from it. Just as every other system has done to an extent.
Keep in mind every other system up to Sanctification is now guaranteed. You literally can’t lose. It also goes to show when you add a little bit of friction, after years of not having it, people don’t want it.
This is overly dramatic. Players dont want everything handed to them but we do want it to make sense. Having a potential power level added from 0 to 10 is just too much. You get an extra aspect for your build that is too powerful and this could be toned down. You get indestructible and that is a brick. The variance is too high. WE need to get it toned down on high end and the worst brick outcomes removed.
The old system doesn’t suck… you people just can’t accept RNG for what it is.
I’m saying that as someone who has all the tempers I want… and an orange MW on every piece of gear. Yeah I had to farm for 2 weeks for mats but so what?
… it’s time to go… and that’s exactly what I’m doing after my S10 pit push with my +42 ball lightning sorc.
S10 is the best season I’ve played… and a lot of people I think would agree with me. Why S11 had to be turned into a dumpster fire is beyond me… but that’s what happens when you have devs that don’t play their own game and cater to crybabies who can’t accept RNG for what it is.
I can agree on this.
A system that can brick items or make them practically unuseable shouldnt have very high rewards. Because then people will feel “pressured” to use it because there is too much power left on the table if you dont.
So, yes the positives cannot be too large but rather small bonuses
Sounds more like the same old broken, buggy, Beta game we all originall paid for over 2 years ago, except now Diablo 4 is more like a DAMN casino slot machine to get the gear a player needs, instead of allowing players to progress and experience the Power Fantasy theme, which is what Diablo is suppose to be.
This Blizzard D4 Team needs to get it together and finally fix the core of this game and keep its promises to players and STOP screwing players over with BS, shady, deceptions and taking away players earned items and progress as they have been doing for the past 2 years!
I hope Blizzard does the right thing and soon for all D4 Players who paid and continue supporting the game, because if not things will get a lot worse, and it will NOT be good for Blizzard or the game. We will see within the next 3 to 6 months. - JJ -

Exactly… I would go as far as saying the old system is excellent. Obviously if some people are not having problems there must be a reason. Obviously you and I are doing something different from the noobs who never learned how to use the system. Instead of learning they whine and complain and now we have a new system which will frustrate them even more.
