Have been gone long enough my gear says “legacy.” Okay, I guess there were some changes. Not going to try my HC toon with that, log into Eternal to check things out first. I’m doing trash damage to trash mobs. My old gear must be trash compared to whatever is out now, got it. Go start a new toon, get up to 20 before I hit a dungeon, every mob in there has fortified even without an aura mob giving it to them, get to the boss and get 1 shot over and over before I get it to 75%.
I’m very frustrated, but D4 has been my favorite Diablo since D1 and I dont want to just rage quit because I suddenly suck. What changed and what do I need to adjust to here?
They changed it back in season 4, Loot Reborn. Everything got a major stat squish - levels, stats, gear, etc. Was prolly a good thing, overall, but yeah, all old gear became legacy which kinda sucked. At least they got rid of all the “Do X damage, every other Tuesday, after dark, to chilled enemies running away” stats.
Been awhile since they legacied anything so you been gone a minute.
Short story everything’s harder and less rewarding now and half the time good damage isn’t actually from skills but don’t worry that’s all getting wrecked next patch anyway.
well you might “suddenly suck” because you will have to get adapted to quite a few changes =P
basically affixes got reduced heavily. legendaries drop with 3 affixes, 2 additional affixes can be tempered on top of that (think LE if you played that)
Masterworking to strengethen these 5 affixes.
In general, thats the bigges thing that changed. Shouldnt take you long to adapt to it really. <3
But yea, Eternal characters got knocked a little over, as there were 2 seasons in a row that turned some items “legacy”. That for sure wasnt fun for eternal players.
That’s the thing I am not getting here though. Everything everyone is telling me about gear, I kind of assumed to be the case which is why I rolled up a new character to get the feel of the game. I got curb stomped by the first boss I went at so badly I just abandoned the dungeon. Dunno what I am doing wrong here. Do I need to just stay on baby mode tier 1 until level 60 or something now?
Thats normal, and its totally fine to stay on that difficulty until you are level 60 actually. There are no 'Capstone dungeons" anymore. You have to clear pit levels to climb Torment 1 to torment 4. This can only be done once you are level 60.
Higher difficulties of course grant your more experience, but if you arent able to survive, whats the point?
Take your time and adjust to the changes. You will also get purple quests that introduce you to tempering and masterworking by the way =)
I guess what is confusing me is the difficulty scaling. I see there are basically 8 tiers now instead of the 4 I remember. I can go up to Penitent, which is the 4th of 8. I had (I guess msitakenly) assumed this would be the harder end of the old t2 of 4. It feels like that in the overworld, but I go into a dungeon and holy hell, I get deleted at a boss.
So is the scaling that different, and I’m not going to be running dungeons anymore like that until better gear?
dungeons lost their value over the seasons (tho s9 is introducing a rework to dungeons for that matter)
Personally i only do dungeons during leveling to get a few aspects that are tied to dungeons when i start a seasonal character. Then i play on the difficulty i feel comfortable on, and take part in whatever seasonal stuff is going on.
Currently that would be boss incursions. That being said tho, you are rather late into s8, so you might not get to see many other people doing these anymore. But yea, on normal, its doable solo as well.
Id offer to power level you, but i think it might be smarter for you to just get into it again yourself after a long break. If you need help tho, ask away.
alternatively, as s8 is coming to an end anyway, hop onto your eternal characters, even if they have legacy gear, and get accustomed to the new stuff to prepare for s9 ^^
understandable. Eternal is anything, but eternal. Doesnt affect me personally is i play seasonal only, but we had huge dramas about that here going on, which i totally understand.
Again, if you need something, let me, or us, know. The forums can be quite angry and mean, but we can also be helpful
Kinda sounds like you haven’t been around since the crit/vuln nerf. Any old build reliant on those has been long obsoleted. They forced everyone into overpower which is now bad and getting the same treatment. Might do some good to research what is working now and see if a few adjustments will help.
Get a carry with Belial and equip boss power, use a few good supports for it, upgrade it as much as possible as well as dot damage scaling for gear and your primary stat. Nuke your way up to level 60 in no time.
