Hello all,
One question I can’t find an answer to is if the game has an “offline” mode, and if, on console, you’re required to have Xbox Live Gold (the multiplayer subscription service, not the free Xbox Live Account) in order to play the game at all.
Previous Diablo games on console did not require this, and originally the game stated on the Xbox Store that Gold was required, but that’s now gone. Oddly, they’ve also added the “Single Player” tag on the store now, when I thought the game was supposed to be a persistent online world.
TLDR: Xbox Live Gold was not required to play Diablo III: Eternal Collection and Diablo II: Resurrected on console in solo modes. Is it required for Diablo IV?
I do believe the game is online only, with everything being stored server side. An offline mode would be nice, but not in line with their live service model.

We’ve gotten mixed answers on this. Supposedly you can play without it, but you won’t be able to chat, party, or trade. Whether this is the final answer or not I have no idea. But it’s definitely something one of the D4 guys said on twitter.

From what I see, theres no offline mode for consoles as expected. You can play without xbox live gold, but you give up a lot of online features for it for a scaled down experience.

Thanks for the replies all.
I’m planning on picking up the game in about a year, so I have time to find out.
Not having an offline mode is not the end of the world, so long as no Xbox Live Gold is required (my consoles are always online, but I don’t care for subscription services).
Traditionally I play Diablo games solo, so not being able to Party or Trade isn’t an issue for me.
Next week, if someone can confirm that Xbox Live Gold is not required, I’d appreciate that response.
There’s no offline mode for Diablo IV.
Xbox Live Gold is not required to play Diablo IV with friends.
