I cannot get my fps to be anything reasonable. ONCE I got them up to 70 for around 10 seconds, then it slowed back down below 10fps, ( I turned down sharpen to 8 from 150 )

  • I used that to tweak the fenris and diablo 4.exe for its “recommended settings for best performance”

The game keeps freezing when I try to quit, or even teleporting around way points. It can take upwards of 4 minutes to load a simple teleportation to town for salvage.

Can we have our money back at this point??

I trust you are running the game from the SSD here?

Have you also tried manually adjusting your graphics settings, and if so, what settings are you using?

What kind of monitor are you using? Resolution, refresh rate, etc.

Not sure what all you have tried, but basics:

  • Set your graphics to Medium. (leave the rest on default below the Medium setting)
  • Cap the FPS to 60 for both foreground and background.
  • Turn off Nvidia Reflex
  • Turn off Peripheral Lighting. (this is also known as Chroma Effects)
  • Make sure Scaling is set to 100%
  • Make sure you are using Full Screen Windowed mode
  • Shut down the Bnet app and any web browsers or other programs you don’t need running

If you are not using the SSD to run the game from, that will cause issues loading assets that can severely impact game performance.

I am also having a similar issue. I’ve been playing D4 since official release and have been having fun. I was playing on all high settings and having no problem getting my usual 60 fps. However, suddenly today when I logged in my fps was permanently at 4.
I am playing on an MSI Stealth 15M with an Geforce RTX 30 16gb RAM 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-11375H @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz.
I have tried lowering settings,
uninstalling and reinstalling
updating my drivers
uninstalling the high res pack
prioritizing it in windows settings.
changing the settings to and from borderless to windowed.
I’m at a loss of what to do here. I’d love to keep playing but on 4 fps it seems impossible please let me know if anyone has a fix for this.
One thing to note was that when launching the game before this problem it would boot up quickly and with no odd screens showing however after the start of this just before getting to the logos and logging in my entire screen will go entirely light gray. Also you can tell the fps is at 4 before ever even logging in as the loading screen and login spinning icon are coming out at 4 fps.
Also saw people saying disable SSDP. Does nothing.

So which RTX30 is it? The 3060? They made a 2060 and a 4060 too.

Sounds to me the RTXwhateveritis is not being utilized.

You are probably running on the integrated CPU/GPU that is bundled in the system.

So for some reason, you had an update or something to Windows or the drivers and now the game is using the wrong GPU.

That’s what it sounds like.

If you can get in to the game, see what GPU it lists being used in the settings. It should show the RTX, but if it doesn’t that’s the issue here.

Hopefully it doesn’t mean your GPU died in the laptop and all you now have is basic video.

Sorry it’s the RTX 3060. I’m not super technical but if my other games are anything to go by it seems like the incident is isolated to just Diablo. I play Rainbow 6, league of legends and starcraft 2 all fine.

Then try this:

  • Exit D4 and Bnet.
  • Go to Documents\Diablo IV.
  • Under here find the file called LocalPrefs
  • Rename it. (just click once to highlight it, then once again on it and add a .old to the end)
  • Relaunch Bnet.
  • Relaunch D4. This WILL reset all in-game settings to defaults and you will go through the initial setup once again. Characters and progress won’t be affected.

Went ahead and did it. While resetting the brightness and whatnot the fps was smooth as it should be. But when I loaded into the menu it dropped back down to 4. I went ahead and loaded into the game anyway and its the same.

That is weird.

If you can get to the video settings, try this:

Find the options for Foreground and Background caps. Set them BOTH to 60FPS.
Disable DLSS, Nvidia Reflex, and Peripheral Lighting.

See if those changes alone do anything.

Nope. Still rockin that sweet 4 fps

Do you have a temp monitor installed on your laptop?

If not, go here and get HWMonitor:

https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.51.exe

This page uses ads, so be sure to click the Download Now button colored in Fuchsia below the line:

The file “hwmonitor_1.51.exe” is ready for download.

Run this, and see what kind of temps you are running. I’m wondering if the card is trying to run too hard.

Any chance you are running on battery or the power adapter isn’t the same one the unit was originally sold with?

Actually I do have a monitor, although not the one you’re linking. The one I’ve been using is CrystalDiskInfo. I’ve been running anywhere from 30 C to (the highest I’ve seen) 59C. Typically sits in the middle around 40C while playing though.
Nope I’m plugged in to my charger the whole time and as far as I know its the same one it came with (This laptop is second hand)

Not sure if its going to be that thorough with the GPU though?

That sounds like a Drive tool.

Perhaps you should run the other. It gives you a LOT more info than crystal. I think the temps you are seeing are probably the drive temp.

The GPU in a laptop has more than one temp monitor, and the laptop itself has a few others as well as power monitors, limit monitors, wattage tracking etc.

HWmonitor can track a LOT of that, something Crystal just doesn’t. It was built for SSDs and HDDs.

Does that laptop support G-Sync? And are you using V-Sync in the D4 settings?

I’m not sure if it supports G-sync or not I’ll look it up in a sec. I got your monitor and its saying my GPU min is 50c and my max is 55. And I’ve tried turning on and off the v-sync but it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve been playing with it off until this problem popped up though. Just looked it up google says this screen is not g-sync compatible

Normally I would just leave it on.

Ok, then yeah, just leave it on for now.

Does your temperature on the GPU show a Hotspot reading? (Usually this is higher)

It says: Value 56.9 Min: 51.7 Max: 58.7

Yeah, so all that tells me is, the card isn’t running overly hot. That’s good.

You said you updated the driver.

Did you ever try a clean install of the driver (its an option you can select) If you haven’t, be sure to exit the game and bnet before doing it.

Latest driver from Nvidia for your laptop:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/205469/en-us/

I didn’t but I’m sure willing to try. Lemme go find it. Also sidenote I dunno if it matters or not but I was playing with settings again and if I put Resolution Percentage to 50% (as low as I can) my fps goes up to 17.

Yeah, because that lowers the quality.

We shouldn’t be needing to do this.

Try downloading that driver above directly from Nvidia and doing a clean install. Again, be sure to exit the launcher and the game, and I would recommend a proper restart of your laptop after its installed!

To do it right, click the windows button, the power symbol then under there choose RESTART. Do not shut down or sleep or hibernate. Only choose restart. Very important. (because most windows laptops enabled fast start by default, which means shut down, doesn’t really shut it down, however restart will restart Windows fully)

Ok wasn’t sure what that was but I could yea, definitely tell it lowered the quality lol

Ok downloading now. should be done in a second and I’ll restart.
