I really dislike how chat bubbles look in this game. They have a main frame and some kind of white doodad at the bottom. Every time I see those chat bubbles I’m annoyed a bit. One way to fix it would be by making a normal, integrated 9-slice sprite frame without that secondary doodad at the bottom. Preferably I would like to see all NPC text displayed using that panel which appears when the NPC is not on screen, the one above the action bar. It would be really nice to have a checkbox in graphics settings, something like: “Enable NPC Chat Bubbles”. There is already an another way to display NPC text: it’s displayed above the action bar and looks similar to the way it’s displayed during cutscenes. Chat bubbles are a bad idea in a Diablo game, because they remind players comic books which are mostly for children. Those NPC chat bubbles make EVERY NPC SPEECH feel a bit less serious. Note that in D2:LoD there was no such thing as chat bubbles and FOR A REASON.
Yet another simple UI feature they skipped out on.
Actually, there should be an option to disable ALL NPC text display, including cutscenes. That would solve all the little UI problems and maximize world immersion. When an NPC speaks there should be a little mouth icon over it head. That’s enough. The UI would look clean and there would be no immersion problems.
Another thing I noticed is that those cinematic text panels are ornamented at the top, but there is some kind of random white line below which looks completely out of place. WTF is that? -_-
