Not only is the possibility to brick items by tempering extremely bad game design, but also

well, that applies to these claims like Ops then as well. My source at least appears like someone put some effort into it shrugs

Basically all future complaints about tempering are meaningless know, because we cant prove the data of these random internet complaints.

In the end if it feels bad, then what is there to prove? It sucks.

well, subjective feelings cant be discussed. you like what you like, and dislike what you dislike. Thats not what OP did tho. Hes putting up claims he cant prove.

For all i care, he, or you can dislike tempering all you want. I like it - and its also the best weapon against credit card warriors. =)

I mean, how the game feels kind of matters though right?

of course it does. To you on a personal level.Just because you dislike something it doesnt make it an objectively bad thing.

tempering clearly is supposed to lead to you not getting something once in a while. No idea why people are still shockingly surprised about this. We are playing a game thats based on Rng.

I hate bricking, but the gymnastics of this sentence were wild.

That’s the mentality that drives people away from games.

“Players don’t know what’s fun”

“We decide what the players want”

well - neither diablo 4, nor any other game needs to be a game for “everyone”.

I think the main issue is the layers of rng, your already looking for a 4 ga item which might actually be in the rarity scale of some d2 items with good rolls, then you have the mastercrafting rng and then the tempering rng that can totally ruin all the work leading to getting the item. Imo ways to concretely brick already extremely rare items is not a good idea.

Hey, thats something i can totally accept. As i said, its absolutely fine to just dislike tempering.

My issue with this, or similar threads, are just these pseudo claims that people are trying to make up.

If it was for me, we still had all affixes roll on drops, but we knew how many people complained about that and “how hard” it was to get items.

I’ve been keeping track of my stats since the beginning of the season. And I noticed that when I stopped at a certain affix it became rarer for a while. So I started tempering junk items and stopping at other unwanted stats. After that, the stats started to be normal. So far there are no statistically significant changes.

-So before tempering an item, I tempering a junk item until I find 3 or 4 flaws. Then I season the desired item. I haven’t bricked an item this season, except to get better stats.

Trust me bro. I actually re-ran the test, but did it 3001 times to peer review the results

Key findings:

  1. Never publish the raw numbers. No one reads past the abstract anyways.

  2. Butter is the best popcorn flavor.

  3. Law of large numbers is roughly correct for total outcomes averaging out to a temper option.

  4. The “streakiness” and likelihood of clumps of data in the scatterplot exceed what one would expect in a strong RN Generator. My colleagues found that a better RNG engine is possible using quantum computers but the higher ups decided that that was a bad use of budget and the quantum computer should be deployed for better uses.

are these the same kind of facts as with tempering?

where exactly are there official player numbers now? oh wait, there is no public data on this…

you live in your little dream world and unfortunately never question where you got your information from and whether it’s correct.

otherwise, why don’t you just cry more quietly because you bricked an item?

What if they revised the tempering system to roll all available tempers, where it displays one random temper with a desirable outcome and the others, not so desirable?

Sorry I agree with the OP. The odds are very bad. I rolled 5 times the same stat and affix for a temper on an item with 3 options. No way that should happen. The tempering is very bad and they continue to not touch it.

PTR changed the tempering to allow you to not have to go back and add the affix group again for the same roll. It did give me the tempers i wanted within 3 rolls so this is my theory on the tempering:

The tempering resets each time you want to temper (as it stands now) so by not getting your temper, you have to replace the group which resets the counter for the rolls (odds). I will have to check in S8 if this actually is the case but i can see a point for it resetting the odds this way.

Just my theory, so i could be wrong but after the BS of too many temper tries with same stat and affix, i hope this is their “fix”.

Why we aren’t allowed to use as many Scrolls of Restoration as we want on an item, I’ll never understand.

It’s like Blizzard WANTS to frustrate their players with RNG on top of RNG.

So do you also complain when you roll the stat you want 5 times in a row? Rng is rng.

Once i get the stat i want, i do not reroll. ID10T
