The previous season (S5) I made plenty of different toons/classes and was able to use non-unique equipment/weapons looted by any of my toons on any of my toons, even if they had a class specific aspect on them.
Now, even if the aspect is generic, my items are locked to the Spiritborn class I looted them on. Some are even dulled out/not selectable when I go to change the aspect. When I can select them and change the aspect to something my Barbarian can use, it is still not usable by my barb!
I have some good ancestral gear I put aside thinking I would try another class even though they are all weak, just to change it up, and I can’t even get them on their feet with the loot I got? What kind of crap is this? I would say only 3-5% of what I saved can be used on my barb and there is no rhyme or reason as to why those few can be used when the rest can’t.
This is a very discouraging wall after already knowing I would be using an inferior class to play on to extend my interest. I mean really? Some one high up had to ok this and they thought this was good for … what exactly?! Honestly, if it wasn’t for the friends in my clan, I would walk away. This is petty. I want to play with them (which is why we are all here, to play) and we are all on different platforms, but wow.
Lets even table the fact when we rarely get an ancestral, it probably has to be broken down for the upgraded aspect. Again, NON-Uniques, treated as Uniques. And we are not talking about a sorcerer using a polearm, I am talking hat, chest armor, gloves, pants, boots, amulet, rings, and any weapons that are common. None of the odd ones either like Druid staff vs Sorcerer staff, or a shield on a Barb, literally items that use to be class interchangeable are locked for no good reason.
Not sure this is really relevant to the problem I stated. No mercenaries were mentioned. I am talking about non-unique items looted on one of my characters not being usable on another of my characters that is a different class but otherwise the meets the requirement of the items.
I thought I had the same problem until I rolled the enchantment the belonged to the other char off of the item then it unlocked it to use on the other char. if a item has anything on it specific to the other char it is locked until it is removed. (stats and aspects) hope this helps.
While what you said works, affixes and aspects never caused the item to be incompatible in the past, so seeing the red X threw me for a loop, especially after I only tried replacing the aspect (due to the red spiritborn only text). I didn’t even think about the obvious affix I would have to change. Thank you for pointing it out. I wish they would explain that! Honestly, I still don’t like it and would rather they kept the big red X for actual incompatible items, like a Barbarian using a quarterstaff.
i agree. but they probably did it to keep people from boosting there stats like willpower by using another char to find high main stat gear if I had to guess.
It never used to be a restriction before to have any of the core stats on your equipment. It could help to activate some of the rare nodes on the last couple of boards that have high stat requirements. They should not lock us out of that.
Not sure if you’re referring to the same thing, but for example:
If I am a sorc, have a sword, usable by many classes. Stats are MaxHealth, Crit Dmg, Vuln Dmg. None of those are class specific stats, so why does it say “Sorcerer” at lower right?
Aspect. The aspect on this sword is “Ice Shards Pierce n times and…” etc. Change the aspect to either one for your class or a universal one. The aspect is what is locking items.
Other than that, I’ve never seen a non-unique item hard bound to a specific class.
