This is the second time I cannot find a dungeon to transform it into a nightmare dungeon. This is preventing me from finding the “pit” to upgrade items to masterwork.

What do you mean exactly? Is it locked away in a stronghold? Or you used the sigil but can’t find the marker on the map? Or something else?
Why do you need to find it? Just use the sigil and it’ll pop up a box asking you if you want to teleport in.
I believe you are confused. Upon completing tree of whispers, or other activities you will be rewarded with a NMD Sigil that will be placed in your consumables tab of your inventory.
You then have to activate the Sigil (right click on PC) to activate the NMD. If you immediately open your map after activating the sigil it will pan over to the dungeon, then you can click on the icon of the dungeon to enter it, and it will teleport you directly inside.
If you are trying to activate a sigil and it says its unavailable, it’s more than likely because it is in a location where a stronghold is. Meaning you must complete the Stronghold first before being allowed into the dungeon.
