No temper cost reroll attempts in patch? its like the number one thing

what people doesnt understand about the complains on tempering is that…

the tempered gear already went through a heavy load of RNG and bricking not only diminishes the excitement to find a great 3ga but also adds another heavy load of rng on top of the first one

i have over 50h on one char, one build into this season
how many usable 3ga did i get for my build? none, got a great one for bSpear but Bspear is crap now and nothing else

for now, gear optimization on ladder is a race with no end
on eternal is more easy to get your azz meta shifted every xpac than finishing gearing one char, one build

thats just a rethoric and has no relationship with any truth

in d3, the gap in power betwen two individuals in a season, one with 16h of play time and another with 500h is gigantic

the thing is, in d3 its super easy to get the skeleton of your build going, but people use that to makeup the fallacy that d3 is an easy game, when its not and
in fact, the pve content in d3 is far more chalenging than any content in d2, the d2 that the unwary praise for being somehow “hard”

That means absolutely nothing when I’m already trying to gear out a character and an otherwise well rolled item turns out to be a let down. Also, how so? Like what?

This is just the tempering defenders arguing against themselves saying we should “just farm more items to try again” while also saying the goal isn’t just to have a time sink for the sake of time sink

Because of arguments like this. I have never once felt interested while tempering an item. The two outcomes are either relief that I dodged the bad rolls or annoyance that I got the rolls I didn’t want multiple times in a row. There’s no journey, there’s no complexity, there’s no steady progression of my character getting stronger. Tempering is a short, simple, inexpensive process you do only once per item where the item you picked up either turns out to be useful or not useful.

Just move the affixes back to when the item drops.
This should not happen at the blacksmith in the first place. Then there wouldnt be any “bricking” either.

No, a time sink is when the result is guaranteed, and you merely need to farm a million iron ore to get it.
The good thing about tempering limit is that it is high enough RNG that outcomes are not guaranteed. Making it more about the journey than the destination.
Certainly not a perfect system, at all, just better than if there was no limit.

Nor should there be.
Well, I mean, there should. It is called leveling (and more power should be moved to the skill tree!).
Items on the other hand should not be steady progression. Should be uneven, random progression.

Now that I can agree with. D4 is extremely shallow.

Since when has the horrible RNG systems they have in this game been fun? D4 has had the worst systems and they doubled down on it by having a chance to brick the item.

Some of the people in this thread… :woman_facepalming: thinking everyone has 8 - 12 hours to play the game every day…

In reply to a comment way back up the chain, Smart Loot should be a per-character option you can toggle on or off whenever you want.

As for Tempering, compared to what we have now I’d settle for a no-change option like Enchanting has, and perhaps a guarantee not to roll the exact temper aspect like three times in a row. Or perhaps have yet another currency, around the rarity of a scattered prism (or perhaps a little rarer) that you can spend to add a tempering re-roll.

I couldn’t agree more. Im done farming for hours and hours and hours and hours to finally find something that is a slight upgrade only to completely ruin it 2min later with the same dog :poop: temper that does nothing for my build. Someone let me know when they finally figure out the way to keep people playing is having a variety of fun activities that actually have the possibility of providing an upgrade for your build. Not artificially adding insane grind requirements but making gear have a zero point zero percent chance of dropping sought after stats. After 20hours of grinding without a single meaningful upgrade Ive just had enough.

As long as an item can be saved I am fine with it - make it a quest - get 100 elite heads of a certain genus or 100 sets ot Duriels right toe and you get to reset for another x attempts is fine. I am also fine with a price of gold and mats- as long as its not only gigarare t3 pit mats - it boils down to playing the game. Playing D4 in for more than 1-2 h a day IS a chore to me, but if I could save my item and still feel i am progressing, it is a meaningful chore.
