watched a video saying “people might feel cheated out of a season theme” for season 4…Is this true?
I mean no complaining at all…it actually kinda make sense because they’re soo much coming to season 4 that another ‘borrowed power’ mechanic might not be the best thing to add with all the changes.
I am one of the people and I don’t feel cheated. We do get a seasonal theme this go around but it is not as intense as the other two seasons which is fine because the focus is on all the other new things that we get with S4 which in turn is more important for the longevity of the game.
Yeah, they should have waited until the end of S4 to allow Eternal players to access the new loot, the Pit, and the new helltide stuff. Then S4 would have been a godly season.
You list “fresh start” as some kind of bonus. For me this point alone is kind of a dealbreaker.
But I will be checking out eternal for sure.
I really hope they permanently ditch borrowed powers as a concept. This will allow them to focus on permanent improvements!
You would think that after borrowed powers was shat on so much in WOW that they were removed, Blizzard would know not to try it again in their games. It’s a waste of dev time and resources that stunts the growth of the game.
I will not waste anymore time with you so talk to yourself. Others have moved on from you and so have I.
"The Battle Pass has Free Tiers and Premium Tiers. Throughout the pass players can earn a variety of rewards for free, just by playing. At any point during the Season, players can purchase the Premium Pass to unlock the ability to earn Premium rewards tiers containing seasonally themed Cosmetics and Premium Currency."
Think of the new crafting system and new loot as the season theme. S1 had malignant tumors to put into gear. S2 had vampiric powers. S3 had the construct that you upgraded. S4 has a crafting system to add affixes to loot and changed loot affixes.
The difference is that all of S4’s theme will stick around for future seasons.
Considering the shear amount of base game changes coming in season 4, I am quite happy not having to deal with a borrowed power mechanic on top of that. A questline and a season journey that focuses on the new mechanics is more than enough.
This isn’t an MMO. Temporary layers of power create a far better system for long term engagement than infinite power creep does.
They have made permanent improvements alongside the seasons. It’s not an either or.
Adding content that will satisfy people playing the same characters that are already fully geared at level 100 means adding new layers of gear or progression that make characters significantly more powerful. Then you also need to add more harder content that gets farther and farther out of reach for new players and alts. Even with the S4 item overhaul we see this happening as they added content up to level 200 in PTR and it still wasn’t hard enough (so they upped it for the actual S4).
Starting at level 1 in a fresh economy means that there is far more game to play with the new systems. The game is about how you pull a build together through the progression systems. New additions should primarily be new options for how to do that. The bar for interesting options at max level and near-max gear is ever-increasing, whereas the bar for new options as you level can stay the same season to season.
It’s not just ARPGs that do this. CCGs also do it, using set rotations to allow themselves space to create interesting play environments year after year. It is essential to their success.
