so just yesterday the game had a patch, but blizzard couldn’t let people know in game ahead of time with a timer announcing it?

Typically for hot fixes mid-late season they never do. Randomly we’ll get a sticky at the top of this forum, but its never consistent.
when people have to spasmodically complain about everything… 
why do i need an announcement for such a minipatch? do you have to prepare for 3 weeks for some bugfixes or what?

major patches are announced in advance…
small insignificant ones are not…
what is so unusual about this that you have to create a topic for it in the forum?

sounds like you spend way to much time in the diablo 4 fantasy land. would you also like a blizzard employee to respond to your house every patch day and let you know there will be a patch and top stay off your computer, and then have to babysit you until its fully patched and you can log in again…then they will leave till the next patch day.

Probably, stability optimizations for the ones with potato PCs. You neither want to know those fixes nor want to understand them on technical level.
It is not too much to ask to have an in-game warning when the players are going to be disconnected because of a patch. We have that sometimes. Why isn’t it systematic?

The patch notes are up for it on the launcher. Was a mix of things actually. The issue the OP is having is the fact it happened without warning and there was a brief server reset kicking everyone off.

I remember seeing once in the chat channels a message about an update that was going to disconnect me. Did I dream that or someone else also experienced something similar?

What games are you playing? Every game I’ve played in the last few years announced every patch on discord before hand. But then again I been mostly playing indie games
