No Fullscreen option at all and stutter/ screen tearing

I have no option for Fullscreen and believe that could be why i am getting stutter and screen tearing. No option for changing resolution either. only options for me is window mode and fullscreen windowed.

Same issue. Tons of stuttering on a 120hz display. No option for Fullscreen available in the drop down menu. Re-install did not help.

Win 7x64
Nvidia 3070
Intel 4790k

this game is using dx12, there is no exclusive fullscreen mode in dx12.

Full screen works fine on my laptop, and when enabled allows you to set Refresh and resolution. There is also no stuttering on the laptop.

I am skeptical of your Dx12 claim, but the option for Fullscreen (non-windowed, exclusive) mode is available in the options in D4 for me.

dx12 has no real exclusive fullscreen mode, heck most games dont even use exclusive fullscreen mode anymore even if not in dx12. You can alt tab fast → not exclusive fullscreen.

It became the standard to have games running with MPO.
So even if you have a fullscreen option its typically “windowed no border”.

If this is the case, does D4 have another renderer?
In the menu there are 3 options: Windowed, Borderless Full Screen, and Fullscreen. Setting to Fullscreen allows you to set the refresh rate.

Also, I noticed FreeSync only works while in the Fullscreen (non-windowed) mode in my case.

the “fullscreen” option is basically just the same as borderless fullscreen with the addition to force the application into the foreground.

In my case I’m running windows 7, which does not use DX12. The issue is that whatever is causing full screen mode not to be available in the drop down menu, appears to be the issue that’s causing the poor stuttering performance in D4.

Since we know the full screen exclusive option does exist as others have mentioned, the question is how does one go about making it available.

you cant windows7 isnt using real dx12, its dx12 mode. SO its technically something like an emulation mode.

OP, Are you also using windows 7?

This is FALSE. Exclusive fullscreen does exist for DX12. If you don’t see the option available for you, then something is wrong. My game has both options, regular fullscreen & windowed fullscreen.

No exclusive fullscreen does not excist for dx12. It may appear in game menus, but its not real exclusive fullscreen. Google it, educate yourself.

This is not OP’s issue… He doesn’t have the option at all and can’t change his resolution & refresh rate as a result. Not sure why you think your argument in this thread is helpful to OP at all.

i dont know how spreading misinformation is helpful either.

Several people have replied to you saying that the option to change refresh & resolutions should be available (which is OP’s actual issue). You missed the point and kept going on about the technicalities of DX12 & exclusive fullscreen only to sound like a smartass basically. Stop embarrassing yourself.

well if it happens in win10/11 that you dont have a Fullscreen option it might be due to interfering Software marked as “always on top” (for example nzxt cam software / overwolf / taskmanager)

Why there isnt a version check on windows 7 i dont know, but there wasnt any and you could install and play it.

Hey guys, no need for the cheekyness lol, all information is good information. And as a matter of fact, your discourse on the matter has provided further insight, so a warm thanks to everyone who contributed.

The OP didn’t specifically say that if he has no Fullscreen, then he suffers from stuttering and tearing. The OP was making the observation that the two may be connected. And I believe he is right. While we all got a little over-fixated on DX12 having no FSE mode, the info has been helpful.

It looks like in this instance running Diablo 4, a DX12 game on DX11 is causing to show no Full screen option in the drop down menu: as far as DX11 is concerned, it does not exist because Dx12 games don’t actually have one. However; DX11 was known to suffer performance problems when running windowed, and this appears to be the case here. No idea whether there is a work-around for this issue.

When the beta opens again on Friday I will try out disabling full screen optimization and see if that helps. If anyone has any other recommendations aside from the obvious of upgrading the OS it would definitely be appreciated.

You could force fast sync or other options in the Nvidia or ati graphics panel that should fix the screen tearing, as far as the stutters go. Remove the ultra HD texture pack by modifying your install ( though the bizz launcher) Or just set the texture rez to medium. It doesn’t actually change the quality of the textures themselves.
