No Basic Skill Endgame Build

Maxroll seems to rate Arc Lash sorc as top tier in their new endgame tier list.

It’s kind of similar in part to some CD builds I had thought of, but then it focuses on Arc lash and procing ball lightning and meteor enchant (neither of which is on the bar) which is kind of interesting.

Not sure why maxroll links aren’t whitelisted, had to post them as text.

There is a basic skill, Arc lash build up on Maxroll with boss kill.

Edit: Borg and I must have typed at the same time…

I am just going to lay waste and rot to everything as a necro. That sounds like a fun way to go.

I played a sorceress with just Blizzard/Hydra in endgame closed beta and I could generate enough mana to spam Blizzard by using the aspect that grants resource whenever you CC enemies (Blizzard chill in this case).

It worked fine even on bosses.

I’m more lamenting about the lack of itemisation to directly support arc lash. For example most skills you can find + ranks to a specific skill or on amulets + ranks to all skills in a category. Basic skills do not have that innate support. Nor are their paragon boards/glyphs directly primarily focusing on basic skills. Hopefully something like a wizard spike unique will appear and give me something like +rank to arc lash, crit chance, attack speed and some unique modifer to arc lash itself. I imagine I will return to a potential arclash build in future expansion when they do start to spread further support and itemisation to the basic skills.

Aren’t there a few generic aspects that support basic skills?

You know it just stopped at lvl 20 and the barbarian are the only class who hads full access to all their ‘‘racial’’

Druid couldnt get any of the 5 familiar buff.
Sorc couldnt get both its augment.
Necro couldnt get all pet book.

So yeah they are strong in beta but that much all. Other class get stronger later on with Paragon and al their effect

This seems to be a huge miss on Blizzards part. Everything seems to narrow down to the Core skills, and there really aren’t that many if you consider some will always just suck or never fit your build. Definitely agree on your point.

It is normal. That is how end game should look like. D3 end game build rarely ever uses generator as well.

End game you focus on build synergy to generate resources and only spam spenders and other skills . Basic resource generator skills are weak and only used in leveling.

arc lash a great endgame build mechanic

Yea you could work with the generics, but why would you when you could have a board/glyph that directly supports say core or mastery skills and uniques and aspects that support core/mastery.

Like for sorc I will consider a meteor build because for some reason it managed to get 2 aspects that directly buff it. One that gives crit damage and another that adds extra attacks to widen the aoe, as well as a generic mastery glyph and another mastery aspect that buffs crit chance.

I mean…this is an ARPG, did you guys actually expect to use more than 1 damaging skill and the rest just utility or buffs?
It’s the same in POE to…

basic skills or (generators), serves only 1 purpose, is when leveling, and no build synergy, you use it to generate resources so you can use your core skills (spender) that deals massive damage + your other skills.

End game, basic skill serves 0 purpose, it has terrible damage scaling, and weak in generating resources compare to when you have a full build (assuming you know how to build), legendary aspect synergy you would want heavy damage spender and core skills, maybe 1 utility skill as get out of jail card type of thing.

Bodach, thank you- you found 1 class, I repeat, 1 class that uses basic skill as end game build. while 90% of the build in S tier don’t use basic skills. Let that sink in for a second.

What are you all talking about? Every Druid endgame build on that site has a generator. 2/3 Rogue endgame builds have a generator. 1/2 Necro builds have a generator. Sorcs have a build dedicated to a generator.

Now if your thread said “All the Shout stacking Barb/Defense stacking Sorc endgame builds don’t use any basic skills!” that would make way more sense.

It is a ball lightning build, the arc lash is just a hit proc ability not the direct damage dealer. The guide itself even admits it.

"In terms of skills, about 15% of our damage comes from ‍Arc Lash, 70% from ‍Ball Lightning, and the remaining 15% are split between ‍Meteor and other Shock skills. "

A skill doesn’t need to be high dps to be good and useful. He said basic skills serve zero purpose. Eh.

Yeah and to be fair Arc Lash really was probably the most useful basic skill that I tried in all the betas.

The problems are glyph and legendary.

There is a glyph, which gives you, updated enough, +200% crit damage on core skills.

Same for legendary, “if a core or master skill crits, get +40% attack speed”.

And that’s force player and there builds out of basic skill in the lategame, they simply do not get enough “+DMG” support over glyph and paragon, to stay competitive.

Min-max means stacking +DMG modi, and +200% critical damage will force all classes in endgame into a “core skill” build.
