Hello, Posting here on advice of another member.
Sometimes when launching diablo 4(and only diablo 4) there is zero sound. When I go into settings there are none of my sound output devices listed. However, under the voice section all of my devices are listed. I can get it to work by restarted the game 4-5 times while changing my default sound output in Windows. Eventually one of them takes and then I can change the sound output to my preferred option.
Someone else had this issue as well: Diablo 4 - No sound output detected - Desktop App Tech Support - Blizzard Forums
Apologies if others have found this, but I did find a resolution for my Audio issue, added here. My bet is that if you have an ASUS board of any kind, it might be utilizilng Nahimic.
Nahimic is an Audio Driver that your PC manufacturer selected to give you an optimized audio experience on laptops, motherboards, and more. It is a trusted driver designed to optimize and tune the audio performance on your computer.
- You’ll have to go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), then head over to Startup.
- Now, disable the Nahimic audio driver from the list.
- Finally, restart the computer to check whether the problem has been fixed.

I cant believe this bug hasnt been fixed yet. I still have to disable and re enable my audio device before it will work. Yet Blizzard go around nerfing builds instead of fixing bugs.

I have exactly the same problem - sometimes no audio on PC. Under voice chat all of my audio devices are there but when audio is not working no devices show up under the main sound option.
I have an ASUS board but no Nahimic drivers or software. Have tried disabling and re-enabling the devices as well as using different audio devices. Does not help. Only way to get this to work is to do a full restart on the PC and then fire up Diablo 4. The audio works about 25% of the time - otherwise I have to restart over and over and hope it works.
Can we please get a fix on this bug?

my surround sound keeps switching speaker location in diablo only. front right becomes center, left to right, its horrible. i have to restart my creative console every time to fix it back to normal. going to towns almost always messes it up… ae-7 w/ Logitech speakers
Same here. No Nahimic drivers and works about 25% of the time. Please fix this

Had the same issue. No Nahimic driver installed, but I found the Nahimic service running (type “services” into the Windows search box). I changed it from Auto to Manual and *** POOF *** problem solved!

Any update on this issue?
found a fix finally, as you launch the game, have a youtube video or spotify playing with sound, then the game seems to launch with sound. Then you can just mute or turn the volume down on the video/spotify.
hope it works for others too
This is now happening to me as well. I have to go into my audio devices, disable my speakers, and then re-enable them for sound to work in D4.
Please fix this…

For my system it’s less than 5% of the time it loads with sound. I spent more than an hour just restarting D4 trying to get sound, making small tweaks each time to no avail this morning. FenrisDebug gives the wWisePlatform Unexpected error 92, just like people were complaining about in Season 2. Even D4 can successfully see the audio devices in the Chat section, it’s just the actual game sounds section that it has problems. Works everywhere else on the computer, why is D4 so bad at this? It’s not that Blizzard overall has some terrible audio system, it works in WoW just fine, 100% of the time. Just D4, and seemingly only every other season. Was there a fix in season 3 then a roll back to the season 2 codebase to start season 4 that broke it again?
I’m not going to scour my registry to remove some audio device that doesn’t cause problems for anything else, I’m not going to do an audio system dance and slaughter a chicken every time I load D4 to hope it starts correctly, and I’m sure as hellfire not going to spend any money on this or any expansions. Playing sound is so basic, it makes me wonder what else is horribly broken underneath that we just don’t notice because we’re not checking the math every roll.
I don’t have Nahimic drivers or services, I don’t even have audio devices I’m not currently trying to use enabled (monitors, onboard audio, etc all disabled). Being in a discord call, or playing audio on another program, or any of the other solutions others have posted all have no effect. It’s just all chance and bad RNG luck.
