I would like to see the devs improve nightmare dungeons for next Season. To remove unnecessary complexity, I think Nightmare Sigils should be scrapped altogether and replaced that all dungeons are nightmare dungeons by default in Torment difficulties. To simplify, affixes would randomly rotate between nightmare dungeons. There is no reason for normal dungeons in-game once you reach Torment difficulty and frustrating for players to see a whisper dungeon you don’t have a sigil for. I think players would also rejoice removing sigils from their inventory.
Additionally, bring back Profane Mindcages and now increases nightmare dungeon monster levels for additional challenge and improved rewards.
Lastly, nightmare dungeon bosses would have a higher chance to drop Ancestral items. As a new Seasonal perk, for completing all nightmare dungeons (may have to differentiate between Base Game and VOH), the player would be rewarded with one Resplendent Spark. This would give players more incentive to complete nightmare dungeons beyond upgrading glyphs and gathering masterworking materials.
Nightmare Dungeons Improvements
- Nightmare Sigils scrapped and removed from the game
- All dungeons are nightmare dungeons by default in Torment difficulties
- Profane Mindcages now increases nightmare dungeon monster levels
- Nightmare dungeon bosses have higher chance to drop Ancestral items
- Get (1) Resplendent Spark when you complete all nightmare dungeons in Season

Would love to see some improvements for nightmare dungeons too.
Boss fight should be more a boss fight. Atm there could only be a chest to open, the Boss fight takes 0,5 seconds, we never see the different attacks they have. Make it more entertaining and more rewarding for a longer fight.
More Exp as a second option to the pit for leveling to Paragon 300.
When the game was released, the dungeons were the flagship now we don’t even have a tab in the party finder

I remember before D4 launched the devs touted how the game will feature over 100 dungeons, and now sadly they seem like an afterthought.

I would add they to up the difficulty a little, maybe add a mindcage (stackable) like sigil for them.

Agreed, and updated OP with the following-
“Additionally, bring back Profane Mindcages and now increases nightmare dungeon monster levels for additional challenge and improved rewards.”
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I like Nighmare dungeons (NMDs), too.
Dungeon crawling always was something I enjoyed - and IMHO it should be part of the ARPG experience. It kinda makes me sad, that Nightmare dungeons have become such a bland, boring and unrewarding slog.
I still remember the times back in Season 1, when Nightmare dungeons really were a “nightmare”. Finally beating that level 100 dungeon with my poor rogue felt good, it really felt like an achievement. I’d love to get that experience back.
Besides that, a lot of time, effort and probably also money went into the creation and the reworking (removing the most annoying cases of backtracking etc…) of NMDs. Also, IMHO the new dungeons in Nahantu are designed well. It’s a pity to see all that work go to waste now.
I absolutely agree with OP, that sigils need to go away. They’re simply annoying these days. I also like the idea of harder NMDs. I don’t think something like mind caches will be enough though. NMDs would still be too easy for good builds with good gear.
So, why not give NMDs the same scaling as the pit? OFC, risk would need to be balanced versus reward: Higher, more difficult tiers should give more obducite and materials.
This way, the devs could solve several problems at once: They could make NMDs worthwile and interesting again - and at the same time give us some more of the challenging end game content a lot of people are missing.

wow another based post. turning all dungeons into nightmare dungeons should be a QoL improvement to the whole game not just seasonal realm.
Agreed, sigils are unnecessary complexity.
That is what is being proposed, maybe I’m missing something? Albeit you have to be in Torment difficulties.

yeah great im all for it. blizz needs to get to it they got lots of work to do! let’s go
Agreed, hope Blizzard improves NMDs for next Season as they all feel rather lackluster in their current state.
They should just make a single tunnel to the boss, for all the entertainment that dungeons provide in this game.
Getting rid of Nightmare Dungeon Sigils and freeing up that inventory space would be very welcome.
Perhaps make all dungeons in Helltides at any difficulty setting Nightmare Dungeons, along with making all dungeons (regardless of Helltide) Nightmare Dungeons in Torment 1+. Nightmare Dungeons aren’t especially difficult, so allowing the player to do them before Torment seems fine.
I don’t really miss Profane Mindcages, but simply from the standpoint that I already don’t like having to remember to pop an elixir every so many minutes to maximize XP gain, and Profane Mindcages feel like the same sort of thing. I’d be interested in Nightmare Dungeons having additional scaling per Torment level though beyond the regular Torment scaling to achieve a similar effect without the “remember to take your Mindcage” routine, or like Athremon says, maybe give them scaling like the Pit.
I like the other suggestions.

That’s also a good idea making every dungeon in Helltides a NMD.

Im fully on board with sigils getting scrapped. I think they were trying to make them like “maps” with a variety of unique mods, but it just didn’t work. As they are now is pure tedium.

How do you figure? I think scrapping Nightmare Sigils alone would be a vast improvement. Having NMD bosses also having higher chance to drop Ancestral items would be a welcome change as well. Just my humble opinion.
Because the actual dungeons themselves need to be made interesting to run through. There is no variety and nothing interesting to find within dungeons, and they all have the same mechanics, and end the same against the same bosses. They are junk, and removing the nightmare sigil does absolutely nothing to fix that.
I like your ideas but Id like to see the return of the butcher and not the glass canon that dies instantly from stepping on lego.
